My wife drives a 2003 Renault Laguna. It's starting to show its age.

I drive a Renault Megane 2007 two-seater car-van, which is commercially taxed. I use it for work and it's in mint condition with tiny mileage for its age - I only use it around town.

Ideally, we'd like to rationalize the two sets of tax/insurance/DOE,NCT/servicing that we're paying into one and save some money.

The catch is that I keep a lot of my work equipment in the back of the Megane all the time. It's just not practical to take it out every time I come home. In any case, we don't really have the room for it in the house.

So, if we were to use only one vehicle, it would have to have space for my gear in the back, and five seats for the occasions when we need them.

A big estate doesn't really appeal, since the Megane can turn on a sixpence and park anywhere.

I'm probably asking for the impossible, but I thought I'd ask anyway! :P

    Thanks.

    D.

Some 4x4's(discovery etc) are now available as crewcabs with 5 seats. I think the Ford Kuga is now available as a 4 seater crewcab. Seems there was some change in the law recently in relation to crewcabs.
Tax wise, you may need to sign some sort of declaration on it's first taxing saying it will only be used commercially.

    Thanks for the reply.

Now looking at a Skoda Yeti or a Kia Sportage.

The Kia is less than €300 to tax and it comes with a 7 year warranty. Plenty of 1-3 year old samples around.

Can I reclaim the VAT on the purchase of a 4 wheel drive/4 door, or must it be strictly commercial?

    Thanks.

Not only does it need to be commercial but must specifically sold with a vat invoice, many commercials are sold legitimately without vat invoice secondhand .

    Thanks.

Can someone please post examples of crewcab commercials, preferably from Carzone.ie or the like.

    Many thanks.

Mercedes Vito Crewcab. If you get one that hasn't been used by a builder your set. What's your budget?

    What about the Toyota Hilux?

Thing is, with the Kia, at €280 to tax and 7 year warranty (most of which would be still running on a two or three year old model), the commercial benefits are negligible.
