It appears that the recent visit of Pope Francis to Korea has been deemed a success by both the Vatican and South Korea.

The Pope has also expressed a wish to visit China, according to the Guardian newspaper.
    http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/aug/18/pope-francis-2015-us-trip-china-if-permitted

It might be a small gesture but Chinese authorities allowed the Pope's plane to traverse Chinese airspace for the first time ever for a papal trip.
Small gestures like these could indicate a thawing in the relationship between the Vatican and China.
