Abandoned shopping trolley outside my house?

I've just noticed an abandoned shopping trolley outside my house. It belongs to Tescos and it's a bloody eyesore! Any ideas on who exactly to contact to have it removed? I've checked Tesco's website and it's main customer service line is closed. 8 am to 6 pm so no joy there. Anyone had any experience of this?

Why not take it in to your garden for the night and call them tomorrow. Or ignore it and some kids will get rid of it for you soon enough.

You can get on to the litter warden, John Long's office and he will take up the matter for you.

He was on an RTE show on this subject a few years back and he has the power to fine the Supermarket. The Supermarket itself may not respond to you as a civilian.

You should find his number prominently on the City Council Site

Funnily enough, I caught 2 kids playing with it around the side of my house right now! I told them that it doesn't belong to them it belongs to Tescos and to put it back where they found it. So they did. So it's back in the same place I originally saw it.

I've also considered putting it into the back garden for safe keeping but if tescos come along to collect it and I wheel it out from my own private property onto the public road could I be asking for trouble? It's not my property. Why was it in my back garden? It's technically stolen property. I work in an industry that uses "Combietainers". The're vaguely similar to shopping trolleys but are infact owned by the company I work for.

An abandoned trolley eh? Return it to its natural habitat, the River Lee.

Alternatively you can make this really classy barbeque:

I second the litter warden idea, I don't think Tesco will be that bothered.

Why make a big deal about it

It's stolen property. It looks unsightly. Tonight a bunch of drunken students could take it and ram my car with it. Or it could be left on the road as another hazard. We have a nice well kept green area where I live. I don't want abandoned shopping trolleys on our green.

It has wheels ya? Then just go outside roll it away from your house and make it someone else's problem.

    Honest to god.

So let me get this straight.

You are worried that if you ring Tesco and tell them the story they may accuse you of theft and you might get in trouble for having it on your property even though you rang them and made them aware?

I think you need to screw your head on and stop worrying.

I would guess they'l thank you very much and send a staff member down by foot if you're within walking distance or one of their delivery drivers down to pick it up if your further away.

Either way, stop being paranoid, nothing is going to happen to you over the bloody trolley.

Gees it's a shopping trolley, not a car with a bootful of drug money.

Don't call Tesco or the Gardai, go straight to Joe Duffy. Or, go via his man on the ground in Cork, John O'Donovan. You may get a little break from Joe to recover from the stress caused by this highly upsetting incident.

I think you need to actually read the thread so you can " get it straight" all on your own.
The Tesco phone line is closed from 6pm. The Op posted at nearly half seven.

There is no sense of paranoia from the OP, they, naturally, want rid of an eyesore before someone uses it to damage something.

Honestly, read the thread before commenting people!

That's not paranoia, I wouldn't put a trolley into my back garden either, that's just common sense.

Its not really stolen property though is it? Im sure the person who took it bought it for a €1 and decided he didn't want it anymore.

If you're that worried about it why not bring it back to tesco yourself? I can't imagine you're too far from it, I can't imagine someone pushing a trolley for miles. And if it still has the euro in it, bonus!

Jesus at this rate people will need a thread on how to dress themselves in the morning. Wheel the bloody thing back to Tesco if you're that bothered. Honest to god.

This is my favourite part. Some kids were removing the problem, but the solution was not good enough.

In the time you spent letting this be an issue, could you not have just brought it back to Tesco?

It wouldn't really matter which Tesco if you have more than one near you.

All you'd have to do is pop it back in with the rest, or if you really wanted to, inform a member of staff.

I'm sure the staff member will politely accept the trolley, but are actually thinking "oh, didn't even know we had one missing"

It seems your trying to make this an issue/ look to someone to blame (ringing customer care lines, considering litter wardens etc)

Its not as if they themselves placed it there on purpose

If you want to live do exactly as I say.....Exactly!!!
You need to be pre-emptive here spoonman. Get in your car immediately and ram both the trolley and any drunken students you can find, don't think, just act - there's a time for thinking and there's a time for acting, thinking time is finished, it's action time baby and you need to be action man (hint: action spoonman just doesn't strike terror into the hearts of the enemy)
It's a ram or be rammed world, do it right now, don't wait these are dangerous times. Strike first, strike hard, strike fast. It's a slim chance, but it's your only chance. Good luck my friend, you're most definitely going to need it:eek:

Yes, the first thing students think is there's a shopping trolley, lets go ram things with it.

I think its more likely that they would take a dump on the roof.

If I were a student, I would wheel one of the lads away in it for the craic.

Then find a traffic cone and wear it on my head like a hat.

The items would be found in the garden the next morning with a flaky recollection on how they got there.
