Creating value in work

Just watching breaking bad and it must be satisfying to have a tangible product at the end of your work day. Do you feel satisfied at the end of your work day that you have produced something of worth?

I can't claim to be producing anything tangible as such, but I do see the results of my work and I'm happy when they're up to standard - or a bit better even

Absolutely not. I've become extremely disillusioned with the whole thing recently, people stressing themselves into early graves and generally carrying on like the future of humanity is hinging on what were doing. It isn't, we make building facades for hotels and office blocks and the like, we're basically a bigger version of a double glazing place. I can't even force myself to pretend i care any more!

It's all bull****. All that work to make The Man richer and enable yourself to buy crap you don't need, while making yourself sick. Then spend all your money on trying to get better while your boss asks for a note form some doctor to explain why you are not in work.

I want to build a cabin somewhere and live off my vegetable patch!

I currently work in software QA. Developers hate me when I do my job right and customers hate me when I do my job wrong. Either way, I'm hated. Great line of work if you have sociopathic tendencies.

I don't work in a job where I don't create or manufacture anything.....


......but I do work in role where I get to help people get the things they manufacture to market, both here and internationally. I find it intellectually and emotionally satisfying.

Next month I move into doing a job where I help a more limited number of clients do the same thing - I suspect it will be less professionally and emotionally rewarding, but it is spectacularly better paid!!!!

I'm so sick of working my fingers to the bone just to make my bourgeois masters rich.

Those rotten bourgeois who pay me a good wage, provide childcare assistance to female employees, give me better healthcare coverage than the government ever did and put food on the table for literally hundreds of thousands of families world wide.

They should all be lined up against a wall and shot for robbing the country blind!!!

Well, I may barter some of my organic veg for some nice rashers down the market. I couldn't live without a bit of pork now and then.

No product produced where I work, it used to be satisfying work, now hours gone up, pay freeze for years, less people in my dept but more mangers now. They introduced some crappie polices too.
Wish I was still in my old job :-(

Nobody wins in my job. We'll most people do when we're 'successful' but that only happens a small amount of time. I suppose my own position I feel I achieved something when I catch something someone else didn't, or because of my effort we've found someone new to investigate. Or I suppose I feel I contribute something when I'm ahead of things and we'll organised. But mostly it's when I think of something no one else did.

The pay is pretty bad though. And generally there's not enough staff, which puts everyone and everything under pressure.

Yeah I create software for our own custom hardware which is pretty cool to see as end products.

My boss does amazing work yet is proudest of the way he makes the leds flash
