Fuel Allowance Application

I'm in the middle of doing a Jobbridge and thinking about applying for fuel allowance. I got a letter off the department telling me about it so I never thought about it before. Also when my jobbridge is over it’ll be November so my payment will go back down to 100 a week so it’d really help as I have problems with heating (rather the lack of it lol) So I’d be able to use the bit extra on the bills. I’m saving for an electric blanket or heater or something so my bills will obviously be effected when I start using it.

Basically my question is since I’m doing a jobbridge, I work 9-5 Monday-Friday. So I was wondering would it be possible to pick up the form and return it to my local social welfare office in the one day. As in I’m considering booking a day off to do that. I’ve saved up to go to a GP so I’m going to kill two birds with one stone as he’s office hours too. But I won’t bother doing either if I can’t return the form in the one day.

Also is it possible to have someone just picking up the form? I’m guessing I’ll have to return it myself with my ID and everything.

On JobBridge you are entitled to time off (not from annual leave) to visit Dept of Social Protection to sort out your affairs etc., and also, of course, entitled to time off for a doctor's visit.

    When does Fuel Allowance start?

    At the beginning of October.

Can't you text a number and they'll post it out for 30cent? Just fill it in and send back in the envelope provided.

Sorry don't have the number, but I do think you can do that... never got fuel allowance myself...

If you're not already receiving Fuel Allowance, then you won't get it whilst on Jobbridge I'm afraid. If you were already receiving the FA before you started your Jobbridge, then it'll continue to be paid. But you cannot apply for that or any other allowances whilst doing your JB.

Several people have already been stung by this. There's a fairly recent thread about it as well here..

Now somebody suggested on that thread going to see the CWO, but that's a long shot...

I suggested going to the cwo as in my honest opinion while you are on jb and possibly meet the the criteria for FA then you should not be discommoded.

Oh, but you are. I agree with you, but the OP is wasting their time applying, IMO.

My mantra always is if your are not in you cant win... so apply apply the worst answer is No.

Yeah but do you want a barrage of people just throwing in forms left right and center to chance their arm?

It's better if people do a bit of legwork themselves, and take ownership for their situation.

Form a view that you have a probable to certain chance of an entitlement; then put in the application. Don't just do no work and cluelessly stick in the form on the basis that the worst is no (or in the knowledge you only have a remote chance). That's just putting the administrative burden on the Department.

Of course I dont want a barrage of people applying... throwing in forms left right and center does not sound good and chancing their arm...gives another connotation. In my opinion a person on jobbridge who has their days frozen for the want of a better word may have had an underlying entitlement to fuel allowance and should apply to the community welfare officer. People on back to education allowance do not qualify for fuel allowance but it is paid by the community welfare officer. At the end of the day the role of the Department of Social Protection is to provide each claimant with what they are entitled to or qualify for. Any application submitted has to be processed.
