Paint advice for child's bedroom

I'm going to be decorating my son's (9) bedroom shortly and am looking for some advice /suggestions.

Its currently blue, but the room gets no sun and therefore feels quite cold. Its a large double room with a built in birch colour wardrobe.

So far what I have got is red curtains and a bright striped duvet, blue's, reds, oranges and whites. So I want to keep the rest of the room fairly neutral.

I was thinking of maybe a warm cream with maybe a dark grey or black stripe around the centre of the walls (horizontally) to break it up?

Any colour or paint suggestions would be a great help!
