I received my insurance renewal quotation from same company I've used with 5-years (since I bought my first ever car) and eventhough I changed my car in May this year (see here) I was okay with the quotation.

Today something told me check with a broker and see what they come back with and what-d'ya know : Car Insurance Broker gave me a quotation; same insurance company I've always used came back cheapest; fully comp; insured my 5-years no claims and all came back at 140euro cheaper that what they quoted me directly themselves.

Off I went to get them to explain themselves as both my Late Loving Dad who had full licence over 40-years paid almost same as me as a young female driver in his last ever quotation with them and now this 140euro difference.

They were a lickle taken aback with the price difference; apologised but could only say their HQ send them on their weekly quotations and they've allowance to give a certain % discount at their discretion but no way would their discount come close to the monies I saved today.

Just a thread to urge you folk to look around and don't hesitate in seeking answers from those with whom you're parting your monies with.

    Hope this benefits someone,

Every year I always phone a bunch of brokers and insurance companies directly. In my experience, it changes year on year as to which is cheaper.

The past two years, the cheapest I have found is going direct with Aviva.

I have no loyality to any company whatsoever.

I had to renew my insurance 3 weeks ago, but there I was as per usual typing in my details to Chill Insurance online, and not even half way through it I get a call on the home phone from have a guess ? yes Chill Insurance. They were fast acting in making contact with me. But I can't stand folk ringing me when I'm trying to do it online.

I got a few discounts from Chill and with the extras it came to the same price as my previous insurer and it was the cheapest all around so happy days, but I wish they didn't monitor my input on their website as I'm not a fan of being called out of the blue like this.

The insurer I'm with now is ARB Underwriting Limited. I never heard of this crowd before.

Usually your renewal is more expensive because they give discounts to new customers. By going through the broker you became a new customer. Still doesn't explain the €140 difference.

Personally I never go back to my current company if I get a cheaper quote. If they want my business give me the best quote from the off, not a quote that can suddenly match a different company if queried.

I always just accepted my renewal quote until this year when I saw a recommendation on boards.ie for lowestquote.ie. I sent the quote I had received from my insurance company to them and they found me a much cheaper quote. I think they manually search the latest prices. Saved me the bother of doing it anyway and more importantly saved me money!!

I get cheapest quote around and give my current insurer opportunity to match it in order to save on admin for everyone. This year got a cheaper quote by about 10%, current company said they would not match it, so I said bye bye and switched.
