We are considering going to Croatia in September (couple not family) and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on where to go? Ryanair only appear to fly into Zadar (I checked skyscanner and all the other airlines have at least one stop taking a good few hours longer) and that is on the opposite end of the country to Dubrovnik (Airlingus fly to Dubrovnik but are quite expensive.

I was there this year with my girlfriend we flew to zadar and rented a car in the airport was €60 a day picked at the airport and dropped off in split spent a few days there got the boat to hvar spent a few days there and then travelled back and spent a night in zadar before flying home.

we didnt get as far as dubrovnik but split and hvar were brilliant a little expensive but very scenic, renting the car was also very handy we stopped off at plitvice lakes on the way home which was awesome and with very little fuss as we had the car.

That sounds very nice alright - I have no reservations about having to rent a car at all.

What about the islands? Did you get to visit any of them at all?

Sounds good - flights booked now so it looks like Croatia it is.

We're here at the moment ... In Istria, near Italy. Having a fantastic time. Best holiday we've ever had. We're a family but something for everyone here, loads to see and do, reasonable prices great weather, great food, everywhere spotless and lovely people. Beats the hell out of France in so many ways.

Aer Lingus flies into Pula in southern Istria.
