Myself and partner are both on JSA at present and have applied to claim as a couple and our newborn daughter. Cavan hospital told us we would be sent an appointment for registering and getting birth cert but baby is almost 4 weeks old! When we get it, will we be backdated for our baby?

If you are talking Child Benefit, it is not paid for the first month, but will be backdated once that starts.

Well that too but I knew I wouldn't get it for the first month, I more mean the claim for her as a child dependant on JSA. Partner is claiming for me and him, and we went to claim for our daughter when she was born, but they said we need her birth cert and we've been waiting 4 weeks for it so I was wondering if we would get backdated for those 4 weeks?

Once the "delay" in not your fault, they should back date.

Different counties i know., but we had Birth certs within 3/4 days for all out boys. The Register has an office in the Maternity unit, and does 2/3 half days a week, so that one can register the birth before being discharged.

And congrats on the new arrival

Whether the delay is your fault or not they'll back date it to the babies birth. We didn't go down to the SWO until our little one was nearly 10 weeks old, just because we were busy with the kids etc... I'm sure we could have made time but we waited until we were passing to go down.

    We got it backdated.

Not our fault at all, rang Cavan and they are only on forms from the week before our baby and then we have to wait for the letter saying we are on the system so it could be another week yet!

I know, but what I'm saying is, even if you didn't bother to register the baby until 10 weeks and went straight to the SWO from the birth registration office, you'd still get it back dated.

Actually meant to quote Gerard, whoops :P They told me today they'll phone me when they post the registration letter so I can go in earlier, so hopefully not too much longer until we can get a birth cert!

If you ring the births deaths and marriages office and tell them that you need to apply for a passport for your little girl they will give you the number to ring of the person who is dealing with the registration forms in the hospital and you just ring them and they will send the form down,it took around 6-8 weeks for my forms to be sent down, but 10 weeks for some of my friends.
You will be back payed from when your little girl was born
