I notice both main and used car dealers alike have no problem letting customers ( and also driving themselves) test drive by themselves brand new and uk import cars with no reg. plates fitted garage or otherwise. its obvious the guards are not enforcing the use of trade plates much .i did see a wheelchair demo vehicle with promotional plates being pulled over by the guards recently.

saw a woman test driving a uk audi a6 with just the dealer name on plates , what if they crash into something and just drive off ? :(

At the end of the day the driver is responsible for ensuring they are road legal. In most cases the person doing the test drive will have 3rd party extension to cover crashes.

But yes garages are leaving themselves wide open to large claims with the practices they are using.
