I have been thinking about upgrading my gpu for better gaming performance but I can only really afford to spend about €150ish, the R9 270X seems to sit nicely at that price point but I was just wondering is there anything else I should look at before I pull the trigger?

    Current setup

    24” 1920x1080 Monitor
    5850 1gb
    Intel 2500K (stock)
    8gb DDR3
    Samsung evo SSD(Primary Drive)
    Corsair TX 850 PSU
    Asrock z68 pro 3 motherboard

What kind of games/applications do you run? Some might benefit from nVidia's CUDA while others may run better on AMD hardware.

Its a mixed bag of everything gaming wise, the last week it has been Battlefield 4 and civ 5, Battlefield is kind of the one that pushed me to try and change up.

Other than that I do a lot of photo editing in Lightroom / Photoshop but I am pretty happy with the performance there.

Ugh, Battlefield 4 pushed me to uninstall it.

Well the R9 270X should run it on high at 1080p. There isn't a major difference in graphics between high and ultra TBH.

I'm running an overclocked i7 920 with a GTX760. I was getting about 50 to 60 fps on Ultra (various blurs disabled) at 1680x1050, it hit 100 on high.

The R9 should match the 760 pretty well.

I know you said 150ish but if you can push to 180 you can get an asus r9 280 and overclock it to the 280x with the software they give you.
