Seems to be a trend lately of ignoring the quote button and responding to a particular post with a seperate post where it's not clear what it's in response to or using those little arrows.
What the hell is wrong with the quote button?

I sometimes respond to something without quoting because the jackass that's posted it has posted an essay, and it's a nightmare to cut it down on a mobile.

It's more annoying when the OP is huge and the very first person to reply quotes it.
We know who you're replying to. No need to make me scroll for 17 days to get to your post!!

You can quote me on that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,398 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

On the other hand it's annoying when a poster puts their input ahead of the quote so you have no idea what they are talking about.

The summer holidays aren't over yet. This place has been like 4chan at times the last few weeks. Actually OP, this thread hasn't helped change that trend...

I totally agree, it's a disgrace how the EU can dictate our fish quota from our own waters....

It's annoying when someone quotes your post but leaves your username out of it, so you don't spot they quoted you. And often they pose a question you're meant to respond to, but of course you don't because you haven't spotted that you've been quoted. Or someone does that thing '@Candie, blah blah...' in the middle of a post and expects you to happen upon it and respond.

Yes. It's best if you have some form of OCD, though.

Why write someone's username when you can just quote the person?

You'd imagine it'd be simple, but I've seen it a bit.

It's worse when the whole post is quoted but without the username included.

Off-topic, but '@' used to be my friend. I quite liked '#' too. His name was 'hash'. Now they call him hashtag, and @ is nearly like...'Mr.'!

I don't like Twitter. I'm no fan of Facebook. I really like technology, science fiction, gadgets, solving stuff...but I don't like phones. Or 'social media'. My second mobile ever is about to die. I've had it for over 5 years. My first mobile might still be alive now if I hadn't left it in my shirt pocket before putting it into the washing machine.

I got my first mobile when I was 33. Crucified at 33, just like Jesus. (It was a birthday present from family members who wanted to foist it upon me, just so they could contact me!).

Anyway, quoting goodly is good. Quoting badly ain't.

    And another thought... http://explosm.net/comics/3647/

I actually don't mind the ^^^^^ thing, it's a quick response to the post immediately above that.

What gets my goat is someone quoting the whole of a long post when responding with just one line. The "netiquette" guidelines I learned years ago were (a) quote only the specific bit to which you're responding and (b) quote less than you write. Now watch some keyboard warrior respond to this two-paragraph post with one line. 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.
