Insulation Question

    Hi,

I've only found this site today, about 6 months too late but better late than never!

I'm in the process of doing a self build, about 6 months in and just have the roof completed.

We had originally planned to have a 150mm pumped cavity with all external walls slabbed with a 50mm insulated slab. The attic was originally to have 200mm insulation @ ceiling level with a 25mm insulated slab.
However, we're now looking to change this ceiling insulation to the spray-foam into the attic (the attic will be converted to rooms) insulation upon the advice of a builder friend. Has anyone much experience on this?

The other piece of advice he's offering it to not slab the external cavity walls as he maintains that the concrete block is a better conductor of heat and that the 150mm pumped installation should be more than enough.

I know I need to discuss this with my engineer but he's on hols right now so was hoping someone here could pass on some advice and share any experiences?

    Many thanks!

Ignore the builder. spray foam requires certain attention and if you give the instruction to change insulation type you should be competent to review and understand the ramifications and details required.the insulation levels will be calculated, you should not change wall construction without understanding the BER etc. Also what is your air-tightness sub-contractor sayng about these changes?
