    What's the implication of no tax on your car , is it a fine or points

    Only fine, no points.
    They can and will take the car away though.

    Here is a list of most of the offences and the penalty(s) they carry. This is a list of the offences that carry penalty points. No penalty points are issued for no tax.

    If its out by over 2 months. Section 41 of the RTA.

    Coupled with the fact that theres no saving any more as you will have to pay the arrears.

    Think it's a €60 fine, no points. If the tax is out over two months they can take the car. They won't give it back to you until you tax it and pay the arrears. The release fee once you do that is around €120 I think plus a daily fee depending on how long you leave it with them.

    You don't need to tax it to get it back. If you go collect it with a transporter they will give it back.
