I do think it's a mountain out of a molehill. It's not silencing a debate. If we had the anti-equality people on a radio show with no opposite viewpoint we would be giving out too.

It's hilarious. Three gay guys talking on the radio, and it's simply too much for the "Christian values" FMA to stomach.

I don't agree. The sooner the referendum is over the better if people can't make general comments on the radio anymore. At least then our position on anything wouldn't need some ridiculous person to be brought in to challenge and tell us we are wrong. Looks like a massive step backwards in my opinion.

PS: Sorry everyone - only just noticed there's a thread on this in After Hours!

The BAI are fast showing themselves to be completely inept in handling cases like this...

I agree. Then the 17 year old son asked me what I was posting. I told him but at 17 he's either wise or knows everything. (At 17 they do!!!!!! not)

I was taken to task....he asked "Where was the devil's advocate?"
Me as the mother was stumped for an answer.

Tbh, I don't think there's much wrong with the idea that a currently disputed topic requires input from both sides of the dispute in a national broadcast. As others have said, we would be the first to complain about an exclusively homophobic panel discussing this subject. That has to go both ways, really.

It's kinda nice that people are upset about this ruling – hopefully an indication of where majority support is – but doesn't change the reality that it is still, legally, disputed.

The problem is does every discussion of a persons relationship on a radio or tv programme require balance?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

No, I wouldn't say so. Surely only if there were some discussion of what should or should not be the outcome of the upcoming referendum.

I didn't hear the Derek Mooney show or what comments where made there. Hope it wasn't just "gays on the radio saying they love each other" that people complained about - ?

Meh. Crap situation either way really. It's infuriating that it's an issue at all.

I think it will actually benefit the YES side if anything. I think ridiculous complaints and rulings like this will piss off some of the passive supporters of SS marriage that might not bother going out to vote, thinking that it will be passed anyways. Hopefully it'll annoy them enough to make them more active supporters or at least go out and vote.

The anti gay side seem to believe that their way of life is under constant attack and gay marriage is another attack on their lifestyle.

    These people are morons.

I saw a comment on an article about this BAI thing saying "if the gays get to marry, the birth rate will decline even further, worsening our economic situation."

    Flawless logic there.

I'm a bit confused as to how that's replying to what I said.
