Absolutely delighted for the lad. Horrible luck and one of our best prospects at underage level. Must feel great to be back playing again.

Big fan of Ian McKinley - lovely player. Great to hear him sounding so positive and he seems to be in a good place. He is only 24, so hopefully the future is bright.

Now, as well as the goggles, he wears a scrum cap for additional protection. “In the year I got back playing after my accident two people tried to gouge my good eye.

There are no words for such people.

Yeah. Mentioned it in the other thread. Just fail to get into the heads of these people. Disgusting.

Delighted for him. I'm not sure if I can find words civilised enough to describe my feelings for the people who tried to gouge his good eye though.

I actually do not believe that someone would go out of their way to gouge a one eyed man on a Rugby pitch. The only possibility is unfortunate accident.

Then you don't know the desperately flawed side of human nature. Think of another sport and a certain Luis Suarez to give a slightly different slant.

I think there is a huge difference in the mental constitution of Luis Suarez versus a junior level player.

It's people who try to end a career like that that should be banned for life. Worst thing you can do on a sports pitch by a country mile.

They should be charged with assault much in the same way you would be charged off the rugby pitch.

Delighted he's made a comeback. The move abroad must be just the ticket.

    They're known as Italians.

in fairness Suarez bites cause minimal damage , a pre-meditated gouge is a cowardly act that can cause eye loss - 5 or 10 year bans may end this cowardly act from the rugby field.
    Wish McKinley well

End a career? They're literally risking blinding him completely for life.

I could be wrong but I got the impression the incidents happened prior to him retiring here, maybe I read it wrong!

    Fair enough so.

Prob a bit far fetched to say it was an Italian in Ireland that did it so I apologize Italy :D
