I will be in the market for a work car , 4x4 , Not a pick up. Looked at the Audi Allroad , seems to be unreliable, Audi TT , Im 6 foot six, possibility Subaru forester .But the Nissan X Trail caught me eye , pref auto petrol , not a diesel fan, but are they any good , any suggestions welcome .

The xtrail will guzzle petrol like there's no tomorrow. .. even the diesel is shocking in them

Also very under powered and not that comfortable.

I owned a diesel for 4 years and my experience was the exact opposite to this.

There are a few threads about the Xtrail already, do a search.

Agreed, wife has a petrol xtrail, great height, very comfortable, and gets about 32mpg, however it is a fwd, 4x4 will use more

wife has a 2.0 petrol one almost 3 years now.Its a 2005 model with currently only 100k km. Only once give any trouble, crank sensor wouldnt let it start. Local mechanic cleaned this part and no trouble since. fond of petrol, probably about 22mpg. its an Auto with switchable 4wd and leather etc.

If you don't need a 4X4 then don't spend/waste the extra money on it. If you plan to go off roading/4WDing at weekends then you'll get some value out of it.

I bought an X-trail 2.2Dci a few years ago and its been wonderful. No problems other than regular servicing, 38/39mpg solo and 30/32 towing 1.5T caravan. Tyre wear is also very low, I just in the spring changed the rear tyres which had huge milage, in excess of 90k

Quite capable off road, we have a small farm so I often have her down the fields with a trailer.

I find it very comfortable and nice list of extras, heated leather electric seats, climate control, cruise control 2/4WD option..

Acceleration is what you'd expect for a jeep but its fast in a straight line, cornering obviously is less than a saloon but very good for what it is..

I've put 120k kilometers on it since buying and plan to replace with another maybe next year if funds allow.

If towing is your thing be aware that the Auto box versions are rated for considerably less than manual versions.

    Pet Hates:
Timing chain can be noisy on startup, every single one I test drove was the same.
Front wings are plastic, I'd rather standard wings.
