Where to find prescribing guidelines?

I've tried searching boards and the internet, and I'm struggling to find actual guidelines for GPs prescribing drugs/contraceptives. Is there such a document available to search/read online?

I'm not sure if you're looking for Ireland-specific guidance but two good sources of prescribing guidelines would be NICE and SIGN. As well as those, the Irish College of General Practitioners have some resources available and some charities/other organisations provide guidance for conditions of interest to them e.g. the British Thoracic Society has guidelines related to respiratory illnesses on their site.

There is no better source of guidance on contraception issues, and the questions that can arise in the real world setting of general practice than Guillebaud's fabulous little book.

although it is 25 sterling, it is the best potted resource available, and very useable.

Guidelines are only that. Individual patient issues mean that there are many times that we move off the guideline grid to come up with a tailored solution to the individual.

Section 59 of the Guide to Professional Conduct from the Medical Council has general guidelines to prescribing, without going into the details of exact medications.
