I have been thinking, Wouldn't Joe Duffy on 2fm 9 till Midday draw back loads and loads of ex gerry ryan listeners ? It would also allow Joe do more than take phonecalls from the public. liveline would most likely only take a small hit in the ratings with an new host. Just an idea.

Do you think Joe Duffy appeals to a youth audience?

2FM were not targeting a young audience back then.

    Officially they were.

He would bring back listeners but they'd all be over 40 and miserable. Plus he's possibly hosts the only show on Radio one that would lose a quarter of it's listener ship if he headed off to 2fm. It was always pointed out that Pat was such an audience puller and he was worth the money. His move to Newstalk proved that really wasn't the case. On the other hand Joe seems to have a real following that follows him for various reasons (maybe last link to The Gay Byrne Show???) However, Advertisers don't really crave his audience, who are either poor, mad, resentful, old, unhappy. (that might not be entirely true but that's what many advertisers will think)

What about someone new, fresh and not currently a member of RTE or related to anyone in RTE ??

That's a good idea. I'm afraid for that reason RTE would reject it at this time. Why not come back in say...20 years?:D

Somehow, I couldn't see Joe Duffy talking about his wife's knickers, the way Gerry Ryan used to do.

Such as? Anytime they poach from the commercial stations, within 6 months they sound like true RTE insiders anyway. Take Colm Hayes. Yes please take him!

2fm have had alot of unknowns filling in for tubridy lately but they have gone by unnoticed.

That's because no one listens to 2FM...

Can't see Joe sacrificing his morning walks along the seafront to take the reins of a mid morning 2FM slot. Plus the maths don't add up....9am-12 would cost RTE approx €900,000

The morning Joe Duffy Show is already in Today FM between 9 and 12.

The ratings have probably improved with his absence.

Joe should get his P45, not a time slot move!

2Fm are not open to change, they brought in a ridiculous 3 some for the breakfast crew who are a disaster, in fairness Westlife are doing quite well.
Moving Joe is not even worth discussing, wrong person, wrong personality (as in, he doesnt seem to have one), already has one of the most successful shows on 1, they would be mad to move him and he would be mad to go. They need a new voice, but they are not risk takers, they need a lot of new voices in fact, and need to move Tubridy back to Radio 1 where he belongs.
They could get some new cheaper talent, people who want a chance in radio that have done some work for smaller stations, people that don't expect big pay without proving themselves, and people that don't need a team of 20 researchers behind them
