Hoping somebody can clarify for me what way I should instruct the tax office to assess myself and my wifes taxes.

I understand the default is joint assessment but we can choose for seperate assessment or seperate treatment if we so wish.

We are both paying tax at the top rate so am I right in saying that there is no specific benefit to us for having a joint assessment that we may awell keep seperate assessments ?

Just dont want to miss out of a taxable benefit if one exists but if I understand correctly as there isnt one for us in our situation.

It's better to be jointly assessed as if your wife is taking maternity at any stage then you can have her credits

thanks yes had assumed that the only benefit would be if she takes unpaid maternity leave at some point.

So tell them to go with joint assesment but to keep the credits as they are currently and then just use PAYE online in the future to move them round as is beneficial ?

I don't think you understand how joint assessment works.

If you are jointly assessed you are one person for tax purposes. Nothing to move around. You both have all credits automatically
