A helicopter just flew over the house. Flying really low. Really shook the place. Loudest I've heard since Obama's Chinook's.

We're just outside baltinglass so the echo from the hills was savage. It woke our 8 year old who thought aliens were coming...

It was heading in the Glen of amal direction from Carlow direction.

    Anybody know what it was?

Hey 3102derek, it was the Waterford based search and rescue chopper known as "rescue 117". lovely sound from them! as far as I know its EI-ICU that's on duty in Waterford at the moment so type that reg into a search and you will get photo.

It flew over my house in Clondalkin a while ago. It seemed to have been en-route to Dublin Airport, judging by the direction it was going, and on Marine Traffic. I agree about the sound. At least they're distinctive. Unless it was another SAR chopper?

A busy evening, Rescue 118 from Sligo just transferred a patient to Galway , just arrived back at Sligo a short time ago. Rescue 115 from Shannon is currently just west of Bantry. and as above R117 is currently at Dublin airport.

Looking at Marine Traffic rescue 118 now in Northern Ireland and Rescue 115 off the South Coast

Living near the hospital in Galway and a few weeks ago on a Saturday between the Air Corps Medevac 112 and Coastguard helicopters there were eleven trips into the hospital, its very busy at Galway Hospital for helicopter movements 24/7. Great service for the people who need to get there in the golden hour or are in any kind of serious medical condition. Not a day passes that one does not land there.
