Recently noticed sunroof on golf mk4 2001 is glued.
Any way I can unglue it? it looks like kind of foamy/rubbery residue which has been dried.

not idea why previous owner did that, but I kinda want it to work :D

Try rubbing it with some petrol on a cloth, mind the paintwork though.

It was more than likely leaking, I'd say you'd be better off with a new seal or sunroof.

As pointed out above the sunroof was almost certainly leaking if it's been glued. On a 2001 car the seals have probably perished/broken and would need to be replaced to use it.

Did you get rid of the Beemer?

Somthing worth mentioning as many dont realise that factory sunroofs don't make a water proof seal.

They are designed to allow small amout of water past their seals into a channel under the sunroof like a rain gutter and the equivalent down pipe is a drainage tube running down the front window pillars and existing just behind front wheels.
The drainage tubes often block near the wheels so owners presume its the sun roof seal.

If your lucky yoy might be able to remove the sealant previous owner added with out damaging original sunroof seals. Other wise youll have to replace the sunroof seal as well

Yeah it's completely sealed all around with good bit of black glue thing.

    It's okay, could be worse.
Don't like though that it skids easily. Love the mpg though :D

I'll give you a guess at 3M Windo-Weld. Horribly messy stuff to apply but it's non-permanent and doesn't leak.

Sounds like mastic or shower sealant. If so it can be removed but be aware it'll uncover the reason for it being sealed up in the first place.

p.s. Well done on eventually ditching that p.o.s. BMW. You were advised not put any money into it, but didn't listen.
