    Hi there,

Not sure if this will interest anyone but I'm looking for ideas for designing/decorating my house..
I was wondering if people wanted to post pictures of different rooms in their houses to give me and others some ideas??

Effectively show off areas of your house that you love :)

    Have you tried Houzz.com?

Yea I've tried both websites but just find that their designs are for very fancy designed houses!! Not your typical rooms in an Irish house!!

Good for inspiration though at least no?

In fairness i'd imagine about 90% of irish households are going to be pretty basic decor wise.

Are you suggesting you want your redecoration to look kinda bog-standard? If so, just put down a carpet, add some chairs and side tables, tv cabinet, few shelves and you are done. Otherwise go look at some of the 'fancy designed' houses, see which bits you like, what kind of look you like and start from there. The room I am in at the moment is comfortable and suits me, but if I were re-decorating I would change a few things, I certainly would not like to 'show it off' as though it was 'designed'.

"Designed" is all very well and looks great in photos, showhouses etc., but "bog standard" is what works for everyday living. So unless you plan to keep the room like a museum piece and keep children out then think comfort and practicality.
If you really want to go down the designer route get an interior designer to advise as mistakes are costly.

or you could post pictures of your room and may get some advice/suggestions.

Housetohome.co.uk is a good website as well

Thousands of pics of Irish homes in show condition on daft.ie , if you see a room you really like you can even go along for a look and pretend to be an interested buyer :p

I do this.... well, I don't go along pretending to be a buyer.
I look at show house pics from all over the country and some second hand houses.

It's absolutely amazing the photos some people take of their homes to try and sell them. Bathrooms with open toilets lids, clothes strewn all over bedrooms/bathrooms. They make no effort to stage their homes for sale.

Yeah I think that might be the fault of the the estate agent to be honest. Many of them take their own photos on cheap digital cameras (no doubt some of them are doing it on smartphones now too and uploading direct to Daft or Myhome).

Apart from the fact that estate agents know nothing about photography and how to set up a room to show it at it's best they are also useless at managing the photography session. They just tell clients to 'clean the house' rather than providing a comprehensive list of what needs to be done to get it ready for photography.

I see virtual tour videos are creeping into some property listings, an interesting prospect if done correctly. But also potentially a burglars wet dream, you'd be giving them a road map of your house so they could save the video for reference to burgle it either now or some stage down the line when they know the house is sold from the property price register and the new owners have moved in, likely with brand new tvs, artwork, etc in place.

    Another idea is AirBnB.
More and more Irish owners are placing their places up for rent and it's a great option to check out what they've done to their homes.
