I went mentalz and replied to a legal letter.

Have I hung, drawn and quartered myself?

Yeah, no... I have no idea what you're talking about?

    /thread?

I know that solicitors know how to play the game. Since I'm not one, but have limited time to respond, I responded. I just don't know whether I've bought myself time or hung myself.

What part of the OP are you taking issue with?

It depends on the letter. Time usually doesn't run during the long vacation and most solicitors firms are still open. If your personal solicitor is away, I'm sure there is someone in the firm who can deal with it.

I'd be pretty pissed off if my client replied to a letter as they're more likely to hang themselves.

I don't have a solicitor as I cannot find one open!

The fact that it is incredibly vague, doesn't ask a real question and seems to be mainly trolling solicitors by saying that they are sipping pina coladas. I'm not even a solicitor and it rubs me the wrong way.

I suggest you read the forum rules and think about being slightly more coherent before asking your next question.

It was in relation to a notice of arrears of rent. I've a separate thread here asking whether TAKE NOTICE (with no explicit time-frame mentioned) meant that I had to comply with what I know to be the period involved. I received no response to that. I tried to find a solicitor, I couldn't, so I replied my self.

If you look at other threads I've written, you will see, that some comedian suggested that all solicitors were sipping pina coladas. On here.

You are perfectly entitled to represent yourself. Your question, due to its vague nature, implied you already had a solicitor who was on holiday.

I don't buy you not being able to find a solicitor that is open though. Even if you live in a town with 1 solicitor, surely you would get on the phone to nearby offices.

Try the 8 numbers I have tried.......?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,397 ✭✭✭✭FreudianSlippers

sure. PM me the names of the 8 you rang. (Note: don't seriously do this, I'm not going to bother ringing them. I just know that not all solicitors in the country are closed at the moment).

Gosh - why do I bother asking for help here.

That's precisely my point: you didn't ask for help.

You said you responded to a legal letter without elaborating in the slightest to the nature of the letter, the background to the situation, whether you already had a solicitor, how long they gave you to reply, whether you phoned them first to tell them that you wanted to take legal advice but all solicitors in the country besides them are "sipping pina coladas" at present.

    NOTHING.

We can't read your mind when you post a question. Irrelevant anyway, as the answer seems to be that you need legal advice. Go figure.

If I had posted all that you suggest, I would be told that I was seeking legal advice. LOL.

You would have been told practically what you should do, which is phone the solicitor on the other side, explain that you want to seek legal advice and ask for more time. Depending on what you said, there may have been other practical advice that we could give.

In any event, you would have been told to seek legal advice. I don't know how remote the area in which you live is, but I'd be shocked if you couldn't find an open solicitors office somewhere.

Why didn't you simply ask, "does anyone know of a solicitors firm in the ..... area that is open?"

All solicitors are off at the moment! Go figure! I wonder where my husband is going every day when he leaves the house.

Where your husband goes is not my concern my dear.

Anyway, I've sent the email - whether I've hung myself somehow remains to be seen.

Pay the rent in the arrears notice then no solicitor is required. Otherwise, pass it onto a solicitors office.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 656 ✭✭✭NipNip

And we go back to repeating ourselves. There is no open office!

Plenty of solicitors open, just because the 8 you rang werent doesnt mean that the other 800 odd are all closed.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 656 ✭✭✭NipNip

    I found an open office.

AND THUS THE EPIC TALE OF HOW NIPNIP DISCOVERED THE ONLY SOLICITORS OFFICE OPEN IN IRELAND TODAY CONCLUDES.

IT HATH BEEN A WONDROUS ADVENTURE AND IT SHALL BE RECOUNTED BY MANY A GENERATION!
