    Hi there,
I don't know much about setting networks, actually I know nothing at all about it...
I'm a QuakeLive player. My problem is that since I've started sharing my 100mb upc connection with my housemate I get constant ping spikes and I lag really, really bad. I have a desktop connected to the router via cable, she has a laptop and uses Wifi. She has a Netflix account and downloads movies all the freaking time.
I have an evil plan of somehow limiting her bandwidth and giving an absolute priority to the cable. Is it possible? The router is Cisco epc3925.

The Cisco router isn't advanced enough for QoS or bandwidth control. It's best advised to stick that into Bridge Mode (guide is . in Broadband) and get a new wireless router, I recommend a DD-WRT compatible router (or one preloaded with it) because you have unlimited options with it. This is only £40 and well reviewed.

Netflix will suck the bandwidth, it shouldn't affect the lag. Once you can distribute the bandwidth (say 80 / 20) - you should be good.

Thank you. I'll just cut her off then. A few more weeks of sharing and I will end up in tier1 in quake...

Netflix will only pull 8Mbps most. Its not that.

Its the "movie downloading" thats likely the cause. If this is torrents as I assume it is, then she's probably not limiting her upload at all, or just opening too many connections for the terrible UPC gear to handle.

If you set an upload limit of 100kBps and maximum connections to 50 on her laptop you both should co-exist peacefully.
