Hair Dye

Can anyone suggest a good quality at home hair dye that's light-medium brown in colour?

I'm a bit strapped for cash at the minute so I can't afford to get it professionally dyed. I have tried some browns in the past and they turned out that awful dead black colour. My own hair atm is a very light brown/ginger colour after using ColourB4. I've been using a Non-permanent brown from Nice n Easy which is okay but I'm ready to try out a permanent colour again. Also I need something that covers my roots reasonably well which are a dark brown colour.

I'm not looking for miracles just something that gives a reasonably decent result.

I really like L'Oreal Excell 10. I used it for ages and it gives great coverage, plus only takes 10 minutes and hasn't got the really harsh stink that some home kits have. My greys have become resistant to it now so I'm getting it done in a salon from now on. The range is often on offer in Boots.

L'Oreal Casting Creme Gloss is good too.

I like this feature on their website - http://www.loreal-paris.co.uk/findyourshade/index.aspx - that helps you find your ideal colour.

If you have a huge amount of grey, I don't know if it would cover it adequately.
