Asbestos Removal

I'm in the process of buying a house that contains asbestos in the form of insulation to the ceiling of an integral garage. The asbestos is in sheets which are screwed to the ceiling beams. There is also asbestos on a door (and doorframe) that leads from the garage into the house proper. The garage is approx 6m x 2.5m.

I know that this type of asbestos is more dangerous than the roofing sheet variety. I have made general enquiries about getting it removed. One company gave a ballpark figure of €5,000 for the job. Is this reasonable?

Would it be feasible to remove and bag the asbestos oneself (wearing mask, suit etc) and pay a company to take away the waste?

Has anyone dealt with this kind of thing recently?

PM me if you want a name of a reputable company for asbestos removal in the Dublin area. I had them on a recent educational project.

I guess once you find it in one location it will appear in other. Get a survey done of the house complete, it can be in the floor coverings, toilets and roof covering. Sometimes if the material is undamaged it can remain in place, or not likely to damaged by future works. Get a survey done and the type of survey you will require will depend if you are planning to renovate or just want to id locations of acm.

Hi I am just wondering if any of you ever got an asbestos survey done and how much it cost?
