    Hi,

Can someone please tell me if such a box exists firstly, and I would prefer a recordable one actually.

I have a UK sky box but obviously only UK Channels are on it atm, I havent tried it in Ireland. But I'm just looking for a combination box which can record or has a USB attachment to record maybe? Not technical at all I'm afraid.

    Thanks in advance

There is no official Saorview/Freesat combi box with built in HDD, series link, 7 days epg etc.

2 separate official Saorview and Freesat PVR receivers would give you the best of both worlds but that may not suit everyone. The only Saorview PVR can be unreliable at times for recording.

There are a few official Saorview/FTA satellite receivers (Triax/Walker) about but no PVRs, 7 day guide for Saorview/ now and next info for satellite, no series link.

There are other combi receivers about such as the Ariva that may do some or all of what you want but aimed at the hobbyist market, don't know much about them to give you advice but there are threads about them in this forum.

    Examples here - http://www.tvtrade.ie/satellite-receivers/combo-receivers.html

Hi thanks for the info, to be honest I thought there wasnt a one for all box so to speak.

I like the look of the humax one but I think I have read negative things about it so more research is needed, thanks v much for your help

Wouldn't think you've read anything negative about Humax Freesat satellite receivers, they are the most recommended Freesat receivers here, Manhattan also.

For Saorview Humax, Panasonic and other FreeviewHD terrestrial PVR receivers have their drawbacks such as no series link, channels stored in the 800s, no subtitles. If these aren't a problem to you recording in my experience is very stable unlike the only Saorview approved PVR (from Walker) on the market with missed recordings, losing channels etc.

Check out the Amiko Alien 2, it's the closest you'll get to an unofficial Saorview Freesat combo. There's a thread about it here

Edit: beaten to it, damn chunky fingers on mobile

There is a banner on this to say 7day UK epg available - but the text below it seems to contradict ...

Because there is no official combo that gives 7 day Epg, you have to hack the boxes, either flashing a firmware that gives the Freesat epg or in the case of the Amiko you flash an image that has the ability to run a plugin that cracks the Sky epg. Both are unofficial, so your support is not with the manufacturer or retailer of the boxes, but from other boards members in the relevant threads.

So what your saying is there is no series link option with any of the above on Saorview, but the freesat will work fine. Sorry I am really not a techi when it comes to these things

    Seems to be true.
7 day guide for saorview and free to air uk channels now on the Walker WP645TS-HD Saorview Combo.

But where is this 7 day UK epg being pulled from.......... who is providing it?

It can read the Freesat one. Not sure if it reads it live or saves it. The CrossEPG plugin in the Amiko Alien (and other Linux boxes) can read the encrypted Sky Epg, it pulls it down on a schedule and saves it to a database locally for quick access

I emailed tv trade about this yesterday and here's the reply I got back.
    Hi,
the walker combo is used with the 3.8 firmware will give 7 day on satellite – but it is not stable and we don’t sell – we will only sell with 2.9 version which now and next only on UK channels
