Magnet's Technicolor TG589vn v3 Modem Woes

I have been with Magnet for about 4 years now, though I was using the Fibre to Home thing.

Recently I moved out of that estate and Fibre to Home is no longer available. So I am on one of their FatPipe plans. It just was set up a couple days ago. The speeds seem ok; however, I really hate this damn modem.

I have a few issues. The "port forwarding" by way of the "Games and Application Sharing" menu does not seem to work. My ports are still closed. This is impacting my laptop with a couple applications.

Playing online with the PS3 is rubbish now, I suspect because of some similar issue.

It also seemed to be blocking my local connection, in that now I cannot fileshare between my computers. No other configuration change has been made on either computers, simply I just changed my network; however, now they can't smb to each other.

I have went on the modem and disabled the firewall and the enhanced security settings of upnp. I also set up the game and application sharing, forwarding a port range of 40350-40370 to my laptop, though it does not seem to work.

Is there anything I can do with this modem? It seems to have some Magnet branding, so is it better and less locked down if that is reset? The UPnP or Nat doesn't seem to be forwarding like my old router would.

Should I bother buying a new modem and if so, which one? Does it have to be VDSL2? Or should I just cancel with Magnet and go with Eirecom?
