Yes I can't really see Peter as a leader, no matter which Peter or how many Peters 😄

No to recasting Tchalla's Black Panther under any circumstances. Would love a what if style switch where Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) did become Black Panther. Michael B deserves it if he wants it. No one else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,811 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

yeah - they had killmonger as BP in WhatIf, so they have the precedent set.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,462 ✭✭✭Cotts72

I honestly don't care which iteration it is as long as its not Shuri. Some fan made a great trailer for a black panther prequel movie with Bashenga a few years back

I really do think this is the best way to elevate the newer heroes while creating a story that will pull in people that may have lost interest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,298 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

I'd be totally fine with Lupita Nyong'o taking it on too, and would fit well enough within the established world too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,348 ✭✭✭TheIrishGrover

Well, I would have thought she would have been a great Black Panther in the sequel too. I thought the film was…. fine. Not nearly as enjoyable as the first one. The first one, for me, was one of the best MCU movies (Apart from the typical rushed end battles): An awesome soundtrack. A fantastic antagonist (Who happened to be right). fun action sequences (Apart from the end, as said above. That casino fight and chase is pure hi-action fun). I know the sequel of course HAD TO have a more somber note than the first given the loss of Boseman and had to deal with trauma. But I just never warmed to Letitia Wright as Black Panther. Thought she was always too slight whereas Lupita Nyong'o was just badass.

I also never warmed to the "What If" series. I LOVE alternative timelines in Sci-Fi if they are planned/described well. If they make sense: This little thing didn't happen so the universe went off in that tangent. But I saw no logic in any of the "What If" stories. Much like Deadpool and Boimler, I am done with the Multiverse unless it's done interestingly.

Needless to say, this does NOT include Spiderverse

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,292 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Yeah the thing about 'What If' for me was always that the premise was "What if this particular thing happened…" and the knock-on effects of that would have been interesting, but really they change so many unrelated points of history or character motivations that it's far less about "What If…" and more "Here's a fun little aside…" Some episodes have been fine, but a lot of it is just fluff and more based on what actors they can get.

As for Black Panther, Shuri becoming BP made sense because that's what has happened in the comics, but the film version of the characters just didn't warrant it. Letitia Wright is a decent actress but not one I'd base the BP franchise around, and while obviously her strength and abilities come from the herb, I really think they got it the wrong way around. She should have become Queen of Wakanda, with M'Baku becoming Black Panther as essentially her enforcer. Hopefully after Secret Wars and the likely combining/ending of the Multiverse stuff, we get a new version of Black Panther; either M'Baku, and different good version of Killmonger, or just a new actor playing T'Challa from a different multiverse reality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,348 ✭✭✭TheIrishGrover

Regarding Letitia Wright/Black Panther. Agreed. Nothing personal. Fine actor and played her character's loss very well. But just purely physically, she seemed too slight. I never read the comics so I suppose her being Black Panther is probably in-line alright. But, with so many comics and variants out there, I assume many of the main characters have been versions of BP over the years. Like every other comic. I mean, how many people have become Batman over the years? Even if only for an issue or two.

And yeah, alternative timelines have to make sense (IMHO of course). I mean, one of the most famous of course is Star Trek's City at The Edge of Forever:

Kirk saves Joan Collins. She leads a pacifist movement. This delays the US entry into WW2. Leading to Germany takeover of Europe. Rise in fascism etc. Leading, eventually to shift in space exploration goals and no Federation.

Not: Hey, Thor and Loki are best bros throwing a party with, I don't know, Korg and Howard The Duck.

So, if they do an alternative eeeeeeevil version of the Phase 1 & 2 Avengers they need to do more than just give them goatees.

I think one of the earliest things in What If which made me realise "Alright they're just f*cking around with this" was What If T'Challa became Star Lord, and they made it that T'Challa was such a good guy that Thanos just chilled out and was friends with the GOTG.

I'd watch anyway. It gets steadily better and by the time things shift, you'll be glad you know the characters a little better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,876 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Watching the new episodes of What If, being released daily.

    First episode was

What If we want people to focus on the characters we want them to be interested in now so we'll kill off the more popular ones at the start

Looking at episode titles and cast for upcoming episodes the season is also

What If people wanted to see more about Eternals.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,462 ✭✭✭Cotts72

I enjoyed What if season 3 although it's a weaker series than the previous 2. Started off promising but was pretty average from there on in. One thing that sticks out for me is that marvel need to pull the trigger on Captain Carter, what a great character

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,433 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

Atwell and Evans have been cast in Doomsday so I wouldn't be surprised to see a Captain double act.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,462 ✭✭✭Cotts72

I think it's confirmed she's only playing agent Carter

Perfect hype trailer, can't wait for this

I used to devour with passion the MCU but tapped out totally after phase three. Haven't bothered with any of the TV stuff but am tempted to check out Daredevil and Punisher. Are they as good as people make out?

1st season of Daredevil is some of the best TV I have ever seen.

A bit of chatter on line of Ryan Gosling in talks to play Ghost Rider (Danny Ketch version), could just be fans thinking out loud to manifest, ironic his OH, Eva Mendes, was in Nic Cage's films

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,462 ✭✭✭Cotts72

I think i'd prefer a younger up and coming actor to play GR. Gosling wouldnt be a long term casting unless they introduce a Johnny Blaze/Danny Reyes as a new host down the line. Then again the hypocrite in me always favoured Keanu Reeves as the next GR 😂

It looks like we're getting a Fantastic Four trailer tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing Galactus in his full glory but I hope they pull back on showing too much.

It looks like a Captain America First Avenger type aesthetic just with advanced technology. As a fan of that film, I've no problem.

Looks decent. Like the aesthetic of it. Proper looking Galactus too. Surprised we didn't see Silver Surfer but I guess that'll be in the next trailer.

Not overly sold on The Thing's voice, would have thought they'd modulate it a little just for effect, but I've always enjoyed the actor so can't complain about it either.

I'd still say so. With RDJ as Doctor Doom, they have no real reason to bring back Kang, and I'd say after Secret Wars, they're more likely to step away from the Multiverse and keep things to one universe (which will be bolstered by the X-Men and Fantastic 4 which the Multiverse is helping to fold in to the main MCU).

Obviously I could still be wrong given Kang's ties to the Fantastic 4, so they may find a way to bring some version of Kang back. But at this stage, they just don't need Kang.

Good trailer - loved the retro 60's look

cgi mustn't be ready to see any stretchyness, but Johnny looked class.

    Thing looked comic accurate too.

who's the old guy (is that Malkovich)?

    And Galactus…… sweet…

The movie is called Fantastic 4 - First steps.

first steps and going against Galactus are quite large first steps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭Brief_Lives

    who? the old guy?

I think the surfer is a woman in this movie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,292 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Yeah Silver Surfer is played by Julia Garner. She definitely wasn't in that trailer unless there was a glimpse of her in a different teaser they showed at a Comic-con or Disney event.

And yeah, old guy was John Malkovich. Not sure what role he's playing in the movie.

Sorry but that's a completely fake trailer, using AI and clips from old F4 movies (there's a clear shot of The Thing from the Fant4stic movie rather than how he looks in the official trailers for this new one). It looks decent in some parts, but others are really poor.

lmao at that fake trailer. The fake Pascal voiceover 😂

Increasingly certain that generative AI will never bring anything remotely resembling value to the world.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,517 ✭✭✭McFly85

It looks good - the aesthetic is a nice change and the thing/galactus look great from what we see(and I’ve no doubt that Ralph Ineson will knock it out of the park).

It’s also nice to have a film separate from the baggage of earth-616, no need to have questions about where what hero is or why these are the only ones to show up etc, it can just be its own thing.

Wonder if they’ll go down the route of having them fail and escape to another universe or if they’ll succeed and we’ll see them join up during one of the big crossover films. I suspect the latter and it’s probably better that way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,292 ✭✭✭✭Penn

At least it means that fake trailers nowadays are a bit more interesting, rather than just stitched together clips of the cast from completely unrelated films they were previously in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,269 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

It's weird, board sent me to that post from last year. I would have just jump to latest, but I quote as I had also just read the below

I wasn't thrilled with that teaser. I get what they're doing by empathising the summer film for the family vibe but given the amount riding on this film, I would have taken a different approach.

There's still time to rectify it with later trailers, but they very much need to. My excitement dropped a little.

"Wonder if they’ll go down the route of having them fail and escape to another universe or if they’ll succeed and we’ll see them join up during one of the big crossover films. I suspect the latter and it’s probably better that way."

This doesn't look like it is set in "our" universe. So, they could heroically fail here (and escape). Also, the weakness of any such stand alone Marvel movie with someone like Galactus threatening the earth, where are all the other superheroes… on holidays? So, them failing in A universe and joining up with other supers in OUR universe seems plausible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,811 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

I think they will try to escape to stop Galactus - I think Galactus will be after THEM, and by escaping they spare their world.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,508 ✭✭✭kerplun k

That was my first thought. I couldn’t tell if it was a genuine trailer or one those fake super panavision trailers spun up by a really good AI model.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭Brief_Lives

I put in a couple of decent captures in the Fantastic Four thread.

    Looks fun.

I assume the asterisk has to do with what Bucky said.

So is Fantastic Four set in a different universe to the rest of the past MCU movies set around the same time period ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,298 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

looks that way, just another multiverse thread. I'm sure they cross over into the one we're familiar with before long.

Marvel reportedly shelving some TV shows they were working on (though never got to production); including Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror (who?).

    https://www.gamesradar.com/entertainment/marvel-tv-shows/marvel-has-reportedly-shifted-priorities-and-paused-development-on-three-tv-shows-including-a-doctor-strange-series-with-wong/

Marvel has reportedly paused development on multiple shows, including a Doctor Strange series that would have seen Wong help train a new generation of magic users.

As per Deadline, Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror Inc. are being put on ice, though sources close to the publication were keen to point out they were 'never officially greenlit' and could be revived in future.

Good move tbh. I think everyone would be far more interested in some of the Netflix Defenders stuff being revived similar to Daredevil rather than a who's who of 'Who?'

    Quality over quantity, please.
