    Hi All

Wondering would anyone know if there is a DVD for Irelands qualifying campaign for 2002 World Cup. Maybe its coupled with the Irelands 2002 World Cup itself which would be even better.

    Thanks

IIRC there was two separate DVD's produced. One for the qualifiers called 'The Road to Asia' and another for the finals called 'Rising Sons'.

    Rising Sons looks like this:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rising-Sons-Official-Review-Irelands/dp/B00006BT9K

I can't find a pix of the one for the qualifiers, but for some reason I have a memory that the cover was predominantly orange in colour. I've kept a casual eye out for it in order to buy myself a copy also, but I've never seen it for sale in the usual places. I'm guessing it might be somewhat of a collectors item by now.

Just purchased the Rising Sons this morning on amazon for 6 quid how bad is that. A mate of mine has the dutch game on VHS coupled with his video player not a bad start but Ive sent an email to the FAI and going to send one to RTE as got wind there was a documentary on the quaifying campaign called "How Many Yen to a Euro?"

Why did we play Iran that year actually?

    If I recall
Odd number of groups meant the one group runner up played an Asian qualifier, and the luck of the draw meant that the was Ireland

I'm still on the hunt for the DVD to the qualifying campaign if anyone has any ideas. The dvd I ordered is only the world cup itself.

It was a staging post in the reduction of Europes places, we'd 15 places in 1998 and it was reduced to 14.5 in 2002 with the 'half' place shared with AFC. Ireland were the lucky runnerup who got drawn with Asian opposition rather than other European runner ups.

I had the qualifying one on video. As far as I remember for some baffling reason they showed most of the goals from weird angles that weren't as clear as in the normal broadcast angle. At the time I saw no reason to spend 5 quid more for the DVD, it was an error of judgment :-/
