Good thing about rain is it rains for everyone.

I have one of those microfibre towels as a backup in the bag. I have at least one spare glove that I change during the round as well.

    Good luck

Spare gloves in separate ziplock bags.
Also, I prefer to wear shorts when its raining during the summer....

Or if you are fairly sure its going to rain for the bulk of the day, dont wear your wetgear trousers over your golf trousers. Take off your golf trousers first and then put on the wetgear. With irelands humidity you will absolutely sweat the bullocks off yourself if you wear both.

Rain gloves are a must, get them, wetgear and then don't sweat getting wet.
As long as you are dry and you can grip the club, it's game on.

I used to wrap hankie around the grip of clubs for extra grip. worked really well in the rain.

Hang a towel off spokes of umbrella if you can. Keeps towel dry so you can dry grips easily.

If you've the wrong wet gear though it can sometimes be better to wear trousers under... To soak up all the sweat :):(
Wore a pair of cheap wet gear trousers once without trousers, they were like plastic on the inside, it was raining but humid... I lost a stone in sweat and my legs were drenched all way around.

A good tight pair of jocks is a must, no loose fitting stuff, think Calvin Klien model for the day :) nothing worse than a loose fitting pair getting wet and dragging around your ankles!!!

I love playing in the rain, was the same when I played football. Growing up in the west made it an necessity.
You just have to convince yourself you're going to enjoy it more than anyone else.... as golfers we should have no bother adding another delusion to our armoury :)

Rain gloves, rain gloves, rain gloves and be thankful it's not cold, now that would be miserable.

Jack Nicklaus used to love playing in poor conditions as it meant he could discount a loads of fellas from contention straightaway. Just make sure your course-management is keyed in and limit the unforced errors

    Thanks for the tips guys.

though it was lashing while the groups ahead were teeing off. It cleared when our group teed it up and was good up to the 16th. Took the rain gear off on the 8th and luck would have it got drenched on the last two holes.

playing nothing more than a 7iron out of the thick heavy wet rough was my smartest decision.

its a society so they play stableford (thankfully).
32 points, two fortys were 1st and 2nd and a 36 third. Was happy enough with 32 as only second outing in about 3 months.

Well it would have been a dirty reality for your playing partners when you whipped them off on the 8th :)
