What's it like? Do ye know how much the lessons are in the different instruments? Assuming it's small groups that are taken?

Would like to know about other parts of Kildare too. Specifically Naas. I play bodhran and guitar but have never guitar in trad style so not sure of composition etc. do they offer lessons or is it just a session?

Maybe go to one of the sessions and chat with them or email them ?

I could, but feeling socially awkward as I'm not a very good player, haven't picked any instrument up since I was about 15/16! Was just hoping to hear of others experiences first :-)

I know the people that run it and they are really friendly. They have a Facebook page as well. Definitely worth going to a meet up and finding out more there.

I haven't been to the one in Maynooth. However just something to note, I went to pick up the accordion using an accordion I inherited. However comhaltas didn't suit because it turns out my buttons ran in a different order to the more modern instruments and ornamentation marked for the class was impossible on my instrument. Obviously if its not accordion you're good to go :)

It is an accordion I have! I'm sure mine is pretty standard though?! It's just a regular Piano accordion!

The guy who teaches accordian in Maynooth won't care. And he's a savage player himself.

Classes are 100 for a term with discount for other family members. Classes are generally small enough and most instruments cater for different levels

I'll check with the chairman and if he doesn't mind I'll pm you his number.

Piano accordian isn't taught. Button accodian is.

You could also pop down to McMahon's on a Wednesday night and talk to them. The chairman and some of the teachers are usually there.

Thanks Orion. I wonder why piano accordion isn't taught? Are there any piano accordion players at the sessions? I won't be able to sort anything until next month anyway but I will give it some thought. Thank you

Hi Orion. Do you know if they meet anywhere near Naas? Do they accept all ages? I'd like to talk to somebody about this too. Thanks

I know there's a branch in Clane. Don't know about naas. Check the comhaltas website - it has a listing of all branches. All ages are accepted - classes are based on skill level not age. I was in fiddle classes with kids myself.

Button accordion is traditional but at my old branch we had a few piano accordion players. I'd say it's a matter of what the teacher plays/teaches himself, there may not be anyone available to teach piano accordion.
