    Hi,

    Could you please settle an argument between me & my friend.

    Is it possible for someone who does not speak (or understand) English/Irish to be able to sit & obtain an Irish driving licence?

    Thanks.

    If you have any difficulty with reading, there is a voiceover option that will read out the questions and answers to you over headphones. Voiceover is available in English, Irish and Polish in all categories of test. A Russian and Lithuanian voiceover is available for the category BW (car)
    .

    How long you would be waiting for a test in Russian, Polish or Lithuanian I have no idea :D

    A friend of mine (31) claims to have failed his driving test(this time);

    "because his car has an auto shutoff feature, that kills the engine when stopped at traffic lights."

    He says the tester gave him a bad mark every time it happened

    What do people reckon to that? I call bs on it.

    Not buying that...there was something else he was marking him for....or did he say the tester told him that was the reason? And on the OPs question you get shown signs if enmglish not your language.....

    From the site http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/travel_and_recreation/motoring_1/driving_tests/driving_test.html
    Facilities for motorists with a disability/non-English speakers
    ....If English is not your first language, you may have an interpreter accompany you for this part of the test. Again, your interpreter may not be your driving instructor and they cannot accompany you on the practical part of the test. The tester may show written instructions for this part of the test and display them as appropriate.

    I wonder how long this will continue to be available. It has been abandoned in the UK as it was perceived to offer an unfair advantage - examiner's instructions had to involve more notice and the interpreter may have been giving additional advice.
