New stamps dedicated to the prison service

    WTF?

    http://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/new-stamps-feature-images-from-irish-prison-system-1.1890294
The State’s Prison Service features in a new set of stamps unveiled today by Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald.
The stamps each feature an aspect of the prison service: care and custody, rehabilitation, restorative justice and education.

And this is what they look like!

Why? Just......WHY? We live in a country with some beautiful scenery, stunning landscapes, nice wildlife, plenty of people throughout history to honour.....and yet they decide that a picture of someone scrubbing graffiti off a wall is what we really need to put on our national stamps? No offence to the prison service, I'm sure many of them do great work, but it's not exactly a stamp-friendly industry and these new stamps just look like bad stock photos.

Anybody out there like these new stamps? What would you put on them instead?

I usually find our stamps really nice but these are....some of the ugliest stamps I've ever seen.

A stamp showing a lonely bar of soap carelessly dropped on a shower floor with two shadows looming over it, would be a better depiction of an Irish prison.

The chap in the first one really looks like he desperately wants to be licked.

If I got one of these in the post I'd think whoever sent me the letter was locked up.

......Uggghhhhhh , they should add lazyness to the list. I know a few prison officers, and they are the most lazy shower I know. They genuinely don't do a tap.

That is just weird. Why would you put mini adverts about your prison service on letters that then get sent internationally?

    His name is ........

No idea. I mean it's not exactly something that's worth advertising, or anything that's uniquely Irish or special about us; every country has a bloody prison service ffs.

Well, most countries.....maybe not the tiny little ones like San Marino or Monaco.... *shrug*

its part of the political correctness of an Ireland gone politically correct mad - how about stamps for the victims of some heinous crimes , they would be much more worthy than a celebration of prisons and prisoners.

Do they even do lickable* stamps any more? Any time I've bought a stamp recently it's been one of those sticker ones that I've gotten.

*Spell check doesn't recognise the word "lickable". Fúck you Spell Check!!

Well I think it's more to do with celebrating the prison service staff and those who work to rehabilitate; I suppose it's better than putting Larry Murphy or the McCarthy-Dundons on a stamp! :pac: Still though there should be a way to acknowledge the work of our prison service without the need to replace golden eagles or red deer with graffiti cleaning or a miserable looking prison officer!

They've gone to 68 cent too. Balls to that. :( On the bright side, at least they're still doing wildlife stamps, should you wish to avoid sending images of prison to your loved ones when sending birthday cards!

How many stamps do you need for a pack of cigarettes?

A picture of a nice revolving door would have been far more apt.

How long have stamps been 68c? It's obviously been quite a while since I bought one! Hahaha

One of our civil servants on 100 k plus thought of this one.
If there was a reason to bring in sacking underperforming civil servants its this one.

Because respect for justice, the rule of law, and due process is right and proper. And so too is reform and redemption, which is what the Prison Service aims to offer, often without success, but that's not necessarily its fault.

The prisons do honorable work with the resources available, and deserve respect.

It sends out the wrong message to everyone that we have a serious crime problem(yes we do in certain parts but lets hide it from worldwide glare!)
