Other half booked flights to Nice at the end of September. Just started looking for accommodation. Christ, it is mad expensive. It is nothing less than a grand for 10 nights in a middle of the road joint. Anyone been there or can recommend anything. Am now looking outside Nice and it is equally as mad. It will be back to Algarve next year methinks.

We stayed in the Hotel Vendome which is very central and very nice. Not overly fancy but a nice boutique hotel. We had room 503 which had a massive double aspect balcony which was amazing - mind you this was about 8 years ago.

It's coming up as €132 a night on their website, but am not sure of your dates.

Would you look at self catering?
Hate to break it to you but NICE is very expensive in general

stayed in the mercure nice center norte dame hotel at easter. brilliant location was reasonable enough. we got our breakie else where as it too expensive. Nice is a brilliant base for touring around the south of france,

    Airbnb?

Tbh Nice will be expensive but will be 100 times more classy than the Algarve and this will be reflected in the prices.

Maybe these people would have a mobile home to rent?

Have a look at the Hotel Acanthe.

It's really central and if you're not overly fussy, it'll do the trick. Rooms are small but they're clean. It's a bit basic as hotels go, but for where it's located, you'd struggle to do better.

Unfortunately, Nice is very expensive for accommodation. I've only ever paid to stay there twice (and stayed each time in Acanthe), every other time I had the use of a house.

September is really a great time to go and there are plenty of options for eating out and drinking that won't break the bank too.

Hotel Acanthe couldn't be more central. It's fine as a cheap, basic/no frills place and not far from the beach (very pebbly). Yes, rooms are small but that's fine unless you like hanging around in a hotel room. The only minor issue we had was with the policy of leaving your key at the front desk. The room was booked in my name and when my travelling companion went back for an early night as he was heading home very early the next day and I was heading elsewhere, he had problems getting the key back. It was sorted after a bit of hassle.

Can't say I had that problem there, sometimes I left the key, sometimes I didn't. Last time there (two years ago now) there was a lot of refurb work going on so it might be a slightly nice place now than it was then...

The Kyriad Hotel near the train station (35 Blvd Raimbaldi) is ok. Clean, Cheap and cheerful, short walk (15 minutes) to the sea front.
If you only want somewhere to put your head at night its grand.

    Hi,
    Check out this hotel..
    http://www.carlton-beaulieu.com/Welcome

It's a gorgeous little hotel about 20 mins from Nice..
Beaulieu Sur Mer and St Jean Cap Ferrat are two amazing little towns..much nicer than Nice.
We usually stay in Antibes but we've stayed in this hotel twice in the past, it's spotless with a really nice pool... rooms are quite small but in relation to other hotels it should be a good deal cheaper than in and around Nice and Monaco.
    Enjoy

You do realise the person going on holiday will be a temporary immigrant themselves. Or are you just racist?

Had considered a few days trip to Nice at some point myself as flights are crazy cheap but noticed myself that accommodation was crazy. Somewhere around the €50 mark for a night in a big enough dorm room in a decently rated hostel!

Was in Nice in April and stayed in hotel acanthe, too. Grand for the price.

Nice is lovely, well worth staying in. Nice restaurants, found an amazing patisserie down a side street, too.

Monaco is well worth the train ride, too. Gorgeous when the sun is shining. Pain in the arse uphill walk to look around though :pac:

If you decide to stay further out to get better value, just make sure you have factored in taxi prices. They are awful expensive there, among the worst in the world. Consider public transport options, which are really cheap in Nice.

I stayed at the Palais de la Méditerranée last year for four nights. They had just changed management to Hyatt Regency. Wouldn't stay there for a whole week though as it wasn't all that special anyway, but a good location.

Found a place in Cagnes sur Mer, about five miles from the centre of Nice and it was grant. Just back. Found that the towns and villages much nicer than Nice, Monaco or Cannes. Ville Francais, which is the next stop from Nice towards Monaco on the train is fab. It was beautiful but wild expensive. Learned to shop in supermarkets during the day and eat out at night. Thanks for all the advice.

I was there 6 months ago...and it was outrageous. I would suggest going to cheaper places...a couple of them. Youll pay the same price in the end
