Redundancy

Hi, Mrs is being made redundant :(

Her job is being rolled into another persons job description.

Anyways, she is being asked to train the guy in how to do her job before she is kicked out the door.

Can an employer ask you/expect you to train another employee how to do YOUR job before making you redundant?

It adds insult to injury imo. But maybe its the norm?

Negotiate, get a higher pay off.

Yes, i did suggest to her to tell them they can get her back on a "consultancy" basis after redundancy to train whoever and charge them a steep consultancy fee.

She is concerned with rocking the boat as she will need a good referance to secure another job.

I think they are real cheeky asking her to train her replacement!

Standard practice to be honest; same way if her job was outsourced to <insert country> she would be asked to prepare the full job over view etc.

For multinational companies but got a good recommendation from both although I felt angry and cheated at the time. Both were large redundancy programmes and others were also in the same boat.

People need to be developed to see employment as a temporary path towards self employment and free lancing so that you can have multiple sources of revenue and not be at the mercy of one employer for all your income.

It is vitally important for every employee to document everything you do now in your job so that , when asked to train new or replacement employees the job is easier to do. Often such documentation can be used to guage the size and complexity of a job and leverage a pay rise.
