Increasing roof/wall height in old stone house

    Hi,

I have an old stone built 2 storey house which I am going to renovate and extend. Currently the height from the ground to the gutter height is about 4.5m meaning the ceilings are very low inside. As part of the project I'm considering removing the existing roof and increasing the outer wall height by about 1.5m then reroofing to increase the overall height of the house. I plan to gut the inside of the house and the existing walls are about 1m thick stone construction.

is this even possible to do?

Also this would mean moving upstairs windows higher up. Would the stone on the additional 1.5m blend in with the existing? The entire front would be cleaned and repointed anyway

Really appreciate your thoughts especially anyone who has ever done something like this

It might be prudent to investigate the condition of the base of the house (depth and soundness of the foundations) before venturing higher.

I was in a similar situation, I went up with timber frame, it was easy the to frame to the correct with inside the house when slabbing, the windows are not a big deal, you can raise or just cut out for a new height and add in a steel beam or lintel.
