On Target Earnings

Got a job interview for a trainee sales position, in the description it says ote 350-600 a week.
I've heard bad things about ote, but those anyone know if this means I will be getting at least 350 a week or is this just what I could be expecting to earn if I meet targets. I'm only 20, so 350 a week would be quite a lot for me.

You'd need to clarify with the company if there's a base wage and if so what it is.
OTE is all good and well but you won't know what the targets are or if they're achievable. Will you be protected for 6 months or so while you learn the ropes? etc. etc.

(don't ask the hiring people if people tend to hit targets cause of course they'll tell you everyone always does, the targets are very sensible etc. etc. )

Thanks for the advice, do you know if it's standard to have base salary for this type of position?

Don't know really, it depends on the company and what you're selling. Certainly in my company everybody has a base (usually a 60/40 or 70/30 split) but I'm sure there are plenty of companies that don't.

It's not door to door sales is it?

Usually if there is a basic they specify that along with the OTE details

If it's office based I'd certainly expect a base but again you'll need to clarify the earnings structure. What's the base, can you overachieve on targets, how is that rewarded, are there any multipliers, gates, etc.

For example in the company I work you'd get your OTE the first 2 months of the quarter guaranteed, then the third month is the 'reckoning' if you've overachieved targets or hit multipliers you can get a nice big pay, however if you haven't hit targets then the shortfall is taken out of your pay in month 3

That's great, really as I'm only 20 I'm surprised to be offered an interview for this position at all to be honest, any money is good
