Was looking at the Motortax.ie FAQ to see about the use of herd numbers when taxing a commercial vehicle, which isn't there. But did notice this
9Q. Can a commercial vehicle be taxed online?
9A. Owners of commercial vehicles may renew (only) their tax online, provided they have a current certificate of roadworthiness (valid from the beginning of the new licensing (taxing) period), and in the case of light goods vehicles (vehicles whose design gross vehicle weight is under 3,500 kg) the owner must have submitted form RF111A (declaration that the vehicle will only be used as a goods carrying vehicle in the course of the owners business) to the local motor tax office. Form RF111A is available under the Motor Tax Forms link on the homepage.

So if I buy a vehicle with a DGVW of >3.5t I don't need to sign a form that it'll be only used for commercial use. With the Tax rates based on the unladen weight it shouldn't be too hard to get a <3t vehicle with a DGVW >3.5.

What vehicles meet that criteria that you could use daily?

above 3.5t you need a C or C1 (cant remember) licence . the only thing youd get over that , that wasnt a panel van or full on rigid truck would be the likes of a ford F250 or similar.

Oh yeah forgot to mention I've got the licence covered, got all the spaces filled.

    C1 is for >3.5t to <7.5t
    C is for >3.5t.

Anything over 3.5t will have speed limiter fitted 90 km max

    What about tachograph?
Is there no need to fit tachograph on vehicles with DGVW over 3500kg.

Could possibly get away with Number 11
    11. Vehicle or combination of vehicles not exceeding 7.5 tonnes used for the non-commercial carriage of goods.

My lunch can be big sometimes :D

That'd be 10km/h faster than most motorists seem to drive at these days on N most don't slow when the limit is lower!

I've 2 wheels for when I want to travel fast.

The only small trucks exempt from tacho are someone transporting tools or materials for their own business. Eg a plumber or someone installing insulation.
