    Licence Query

Hi I found this forum while looking for the answer to the following question.

I have an automatic driving licence, and am considering applying for a manual one.
There was a thread by Osarasan who had returned from Japan about this same query, but because I only joined today I cant access the answers.

Does anyone know what is involved in adding "manual" to your driving licence??
    grateful for any replies
    Maggie

you have to reset your test in a manual car. key to this is showing you both understand and can effectively operate a manual gearbox.

Hi Porsche Boy many thanks for the reply
However, while I know that I have to re-sit the test in a manual, Im unsure if I have to do a theory tst, and also if I fail the manual test does it affect my automaticlicence?
    Do you know?

you wont have to resit a theory test as far as I can remember and If you fail your automatic licence is still valid. good luck and practice yer hill starts!

You will need to apply for a new provisional to be allowed drive the manual for the test.

You don't have to resit the theory test. You just need to do your test in a manual car to have the license with the 'only licensed to drive automatic cars' endorsement removed & replaced with one without that endorement. If you fail the test, it doesn't affect your current license.

Thanks so much for the info Lads (or Lassies???)
    Feel much better now.
I learned to drivbe in a manual, driving on and off for thirty years (63 now) but didn't have a manual available when I was doing the test, and had been driving an automatic for a few years, so rather than lose out on the money and have the hassle I just did the automatic one.
Passed with flying colours, I might add, although my husband cheekily informed me that I wasn't really driving, the car did all the work!!
    Cheeky sod!!

Off to practice me hillstarts, and will apply for me provisional during the week.
Once again, thanks for the info.
