Hi folks just looking for some input, looking at changing the car (02 mazda 6) to something newer, i have about 2.5k to spend so i can go up to an 05/06 on most of the cars I'm looking at primera, mondeo ,407 ,vectra ,saab 93 and mazda 6. I've had the primera before and i liked it but I'm not so enamoured any more unless i could get a t-spec model, all the others can be nice but i keep being drawn back to the 6 i know from experience that when i polish it up it looks like a new car, the interior still looks fresh even though it was designed 12 years ago, and mechanically it has given me no problems, every review i read online and every help buying a car for 2/3k thread on here ends up recommending the 6 but i still feel like i should get something different just for the change, am i mad ?or should i go with my head and get another 6? would you buy the same car again?

The 6 will be the safest choice out of that bunch but as you said you will grow tired of it quickly as it's basically just a change in number plates.

Primera was never a great car even when they were new back in 2002, they are totally outdated at this stage.

Peug 407, can be hit and miss with electrics, petrol models are thirsty enough and are hard to shift.

Mondeo will drive similar to the 6 but again they have dated very quickly.

Saab 9-3/Vectra are very similar as they share a lot of parts. Vectra interior is terrible and would not like to be spending much time inside it. 9-3 is sort of quirkier but parts can be more pricy and build quality is not all that great, lots of rattles from flimsy trim, etc.

What about a Honda Accord? Petrol models are very reliable, they are nice to drive and some of them are well equipped. You might have to drop back a year though.

Definitely would consider an accord, there's a few 04s around for what i have to spend, no interest in the older model also not sure about the 2 litre engine though I've heard there fairly thirsty

It wouldn't be any worse than some of the 1.8 litre engines in the other cars you mentioned. Decent poke too with 155bhp.

Always liked those cars but thought as most irish do that 2litre petrol is too much, after what people are saying on here and elsewhere though running costs are fine, the tax is only €1 a week more than I'm paying now and just checked my insurance there and it will go down by about €50 for some reason! looks like there is going to be an accord in the drive way soon, now to find the right one.....

Try and get the Exec model, they pretty much will have everything you need spec wise.

I bought an EX spec Accord there last year and I can't see myself changing to something else when I do change car. Its got the toys and is a lovely place to be, most other cars are feel like step down from it tbh, unless you're talking big big money anyway.

    hi,
dont put out 12 k on a second hand car!!!
the mazda is a great car, realistically because you have a bad back you should try the mazda tribute a 2.0 litre suv.
from my experience the tribute is a great car for a person with a bad back.
if you look mazda tribute up on donedeal youll find one for 3950 2005 in kildare allthough it has 140,000 thousand miles on it it will easily go to 250-300,000 miles as thats as far as i drove my last 3 till. he should take your mazda as a trade in and might even pay you for it.

you will be permanently banned if you plug that mazda tribute or the scrapyard in Kilcock again.
