I just bought a Lenovo Y40 laptop and its supposed to be a decent laptop for gaming but I have tried playing Arma 2 and even on very low settings its still not the best and I just bought the Dayz standalone and I cant even chose settings in the opening menu as I cant read the text. Is there anyway that some settings would need to be changed or something? Here are the specs

best bet would be to try canirunit.com

They snap your machines specs and give you a yes or no answer on both the minimum requirements and if you can handle the recommended settings, and any upgrades you need to run said game.. You just need to have Flash installed and the name of the game you want to run!

hard to find much info on the gpu.. but i did find this.
The two main disadvantages of this model are the (currently) relatively low 3D performance and the display quality.

The 3D performance is hampered not only by the ULV CPU throttling but probably also by some driver problems, it seems to me. The Radeon M275X performance is even lower than the slower Radeon 8850M in the Dell 3540 I’ve tested. Future drivers might fix it, but currently, even the Acer V7 is at least as fast and offers more interesting feature set for the price.

The display quality is average at best. However, unlike the Y410p display, it can be easily replaced.

    Minimum requirments for it are:

CPU: Dual Core Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz / Intel Core 2.0 GHz / AMD Athlon 3200+ or faster

    RAM: 1GB

    OS Vista or XP

Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 7800 / ATI Radeon X1800 with Shader Model 3 and 256 MB VRAM or faster

I have everything there and my laptop isn't as strong.

the recommended specs are the same, except the video card, which is, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT or ATI Radeon HD 4850 with Shader Model 3 and 512 MB VRAM or faster

Cheers lads. Does that mean I won't be able to run these with this laptop then

Use the website I mentioned, that's the easiest way of figuring out dude.

Thanks i tried that and it says I should be able to run it. Have saw on another forum that it might be that the graphics card is not running when the game is playing and there is a download that might sort it out.

You could need to download the latest DirectX

A €2.5k desktop struggles to run Arma 2 (or 3) well, so I wouldn't be too hopeful for running it on a laptop.

AMD have an app called Gaming Evolved, basically an AMD+Raptr application. It has options for setting the ideal graphics options for each game.

My €650 laptop plays them reasonably well on the lowest settings :)

So there is hope sir, CYRI always tells me I can't run games aswell, but I can the majority of the time.
