Expiring Learner Permit

    Hi,

Just looking for some information, if anyone can help I'd appreciate it. My Learner Permit expires in late November of this year. I'm hoping to sit my test prior to this, I was thinking of trying to book the test for mid November, possibly a week or two prior to my Learner Permit expiring, would I be OK to do this?

I had a very stop/start time with my driving instructor with my driving instructor for one reason or another, and I'm yet to complete the 12 EDT lessons. I'm hoping to complete the 12 lessons prior to sitting the test, but would they need to be completed before applying for the test?

If anyone could shed some light I'd really appreciate it.

You have to have done all of your 12 EDT lessons before you will be given a date for your test. If you apply before all 12 are done, a hold will be put on your driver account. That hold status prevents you from being given a test date. Once you have done your last lesson and it has been logged as being done on the RSA's website, the hold will be taken off your account. You can then be assigned a test date.

That date can be anywhere from 6-10 weeks from when you apply. The wait time depends on what test centre you apply to. If you want an earlier date, you can apply to go on the cancellation list. You will be given an earlier date, if there are any available.

If you want to do the test around mid November, you'd probably want to be applying by no later than early to mid September, to be guaranteed a mid November date. So you'd need to have all of your EDT lessons done by then too. If your current leaner permit expires in late November, that's fine. It just needs to be valid on the day of your test.
