    Howdy,
Am thinking of renting 8 acres of land from a local farmer who is not farming it at the moment. He is claiming entitlements on it - is there any way that I can rent the land from him without effecting his claim. Just going to be using it for a part time farming project.
    Rgds

    Yeah just say nothing!
We give the contractor 8 acres every year.
I do be glad of that taken off the bill!
We still claim on the land

Need to keep it legit, it's the owner that has the worries. We need a proper lease before we can invest in sheds etc.

As I understand it (open to correction here folks, so f anyone knows better, please add it)

2015 will be new base year for entitlements.
So your farmer mate can rent out land, with the 'maps'
They will claim on their existing land, and their SFP will be divided into this existing land.

    Example
    - farmer has 108 acres, and is getting a SFP of 10800 (100euro / acre)
    - in 2015, they rent 8 acres to you
    - their new base payment calculated in 2015 will be on 100 acres, so it will be 10800/100 or 108euro / acre

There are more rules around it dependant in the value of their payments (whether the payments will increase or decrease, based on their value relative to the national average)

That's the way I understand it anyways. Be good to hear it confirmed by someone else tho ;)

There is a calculator in the farmers journal, where you can put in entitlement values, and acres claimed in each year an it'll work it out for you.
    Here we go - http://www.farmersjournal.ie/toolbox/sfp.php
