That or http://shop.lenovo.com/ie/en/laptops/lenovo/g-series/g505s/ this are good.

Advantage of buying from the above is you will be able to avail of 15% off student discount = €459 (vs 588 for the G510).

G510 has a slightly better CPU but weak GPU(Graphics), G505s is much more balanced trading slight bit of CPU for a chunk more GPU power. If you dont do any gaming you may not care, but the price would still appeal personally.

I just bought a g505s - wouldn't recommend it tbh. Runs games ok (at least the ones I have tried), but the keyboard is terrible.....really terrible. It has so much flex that I thought it was loose! Luckily I wont be doing any typing on it, so it doesn't really bother me very much - but if it will be your main machine I wouldn't recommend it. The whole computer feels flimsy. Its also quite heavy and the battery is poor. It came with windows 8.1, and all the apps seem slow to load from the metro screen - that might be normal for windows 8 though - I use a mac as my main machine so cant really comment on the OS (other than I dont like it very much!). It has also already crashed multiple times (Ive only had it since last Friday!). The screen is reasonably OK, so watching movies should be fine. The camera seems ok too, so skype should also be ok.

I think you're comparing an MBP to a budget unit, which isnt really fair. MBP is 1300+ RRP and has the best keyboard on the market, cheaper units like this will never match up.

Maybe - but a brand new computer should be able to give a 4.5yr old mbp a run for its money. I wouldnt expect the construction to be as good as a mbp - but for 400 gbp, its not a well built machine. I doubt it would stand up to much use, and if its to be a daily use main machine, the keyboard would probably be a deal breaker for a lot of people. Though I guess you could just plug in an external if you had to do a lot of typing. I also only seem to get about 2h on the battery - I believe it advertised 4h. The charger is reasonably light weight if you needed to leave the house with it though. Overall, I had expected a higher quality product from lenovo.

I was going to point to a different version, but the link in the OP has dropped to £389GBP - that's €489 That's good.

Hi again folks. Thanks for the info so far. The price drop has made this tempting again. I not the most tech savvy so I. Wondering if this computer is more than I need. What additional expenses will I have to consider? MS office, anti virus...?

I also just saw this one for the same price from Pcworld. Opinions on which might be a better fit for me?

    http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/acer-e1572-156-laptop-iron/317538/104.12

The main differences I can see is i3 vs i5, 4gb vs 8gb...

    Thanks again!

I tried that campus.ie method just there and the discount would not apply to a laptop i picked out.I think the code only works on the rewards store link on the campus.ie website.

If I were buying from the options presented, I would go for the Lenova g510.
I would look into upgrading to a 6 cell battery though if you are going to be using it on the move.

Looking at the G510 my self good price I think, one thing could someone explain to me, this laptop has a network card rated at 10/100bps fast ethernet while a lot of others are rated at 10/100/1000 gigabit fast graphics what's the difference, what does it mean?

    Sorry to jump in here.

I'm having the same problem using the campus.ie code with the Lenovo website, so can we use it for any Lenovo laptops or just the 1 they have?

The 389stg price has reverted back to 469stg. You can still get it from amazon for 389stg but it says that it will be dispatched within 1-4 months. There is an option to buy the computer for 364stg on this page..

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00H525N4Y/ref=sr_1_2_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1408040859&sr=8-2&keywords=lenovo+g510&condition=new

How safe or secure is it to buy from a company with little or no information listed? At that price it seems a little too good to be true...

Ive had it a few weeks now and still cant get my head around windows 8......its odd - I bought my parents their first ever computer, which was also win 8 and they love it. I guess its just a matter of "unlearning" some things and adapting :) Dont think I would want to use it full time though - would much have preferred win 7.... Id actually probably even have paid extra for it! :P I dont like change I guess!
