An Open Source alternative to Skype. Alpha Release.

With the rise of government monitoring programs, Tox provides an easy to use application that allows you to connect with friends and family without anyone else listening in. While other big-name services require you to pay for features, Tox is totally free, and comes without advertising.

    About Tox

Nowadays, every government seems to be interested in what we're saying online. Tox is built on a "privacy goes first" agenda, and we make no compromises. Your safety is our top priority, and there isn't anything in the world that will change that.

The official client aims to eventually support:
Additional features can be implemented by any client as long as they are supported by the core protocol. Features not related to the core networking system are left up to the client.

Thanks for posting this RF, I did see this posted on the PRISM break website but didn't know what to make of it.

There's an in depth explanation of how Tox's crypto works available here:

Personally I'd feel more comfortable if it used OTR messaging but as it uses UDP this doesn't seem to be on the cards!

Well, I'm certainly happy that Tox is open source. With Skype we have to take their word for it that their protocol is secure and that they're not snooping on our communications.

Still I tried to video conference with my darling girl over ZRTP a year ago and had to admit Skype call quality is much better - we just make sure to talk about mundane things as far as possible! :-D
