I can't post links. Google "key disclosure laws uk" its the first link - the wikipedia URL

    Wikipedia link: /wiki/Key_disclosure_law#United_Kingdom

To sum it up, under certain circumstances it allows the police in the UK to compel you to provide encrypted data in a legible form IE. forcing you to decrypt it or provide them the decryption key - even if you have forgotten the decryption key. Failure to do so carries a prison term in the UK.

Do we have similar laws here in Ireland?

Yes. Certain warrants allow gardai to make a demand for passwords and pins. Failure to provide them is an offence.

I remember the delays in the Anglo-Irish bank prosecutions because of these missing encryption keys. How was anyone not charged with obstruction?
