I don't normally post on this, but I do see where you are coming from as I do understand what it's like to live on a farm. There is a strong community spirit in the farming community of a given area but at the same time it can be very lonely. As has been mentioned on this forum before, I'm not going to patronize you with "join a club".

But with respect to going back to study for your leaving cert, while it's a great idea I didn't see anything in your post to indicate what is your long term plan, like is there a career fields that you'd like to enter? Would you be interested in a trade or something in third level? Are there any career fields that interest you? I know a few people who went back to do their leaving cert (in their 20's mind) so you are relatively young.

I'm 25 and going through a complete career change and there are plenty more in my position. You recognise you are not happy and it sounds like you are willing to actually do something about it. You're only in your teens, they don't call it the roaring twenties for nothing!

Go back and do your leaving cert. You can figure the rest out later.

Good stuff. Having a LC is always a good thing to have. I was wondering maybe if you were interested in doing a trade more so than some in higher education. I have relations in the gardai who love their job and find it very rewarding. If it's what you want then go for it! You're in the perfection position to do so.

You need to change to question from "what's the point in living?" to "why do I continue living in this unsatisfying way?"

Obviously you hate your current life so you need to change everything.

Going back to school is a great idea. If you can get your leaving cert you can go to college and shape a new life for yourself.

The current round of garda recruitment is closed, so even if you had lc Irish, you're going to have to wait until the next round.

Presuming your family are willing to support you financially, definitely go back and do your leaving cert.

There should be another round of garda recruitment around the time you finish.

Going back to do your leaving cert is a great idea! Would you go back to your same school? You should post in the Leaving Cert forum.

All the rest will come later.

Why did your father let you leave school at 15? Shame on him.

I echo what others have said in that going back to do the Leaving Cert is a great idea. Don't worry about getting huge points, just basic passes will stand to you my man.

Apart from that, at your age you have the world by the BALLS. I wish I was your age getting this advice.

Study for your LC - It will always stand to you and let you go on to do other things

Study for a trade - Get an ol' trade if you're good with your hands! Great opportunities worldwide with the right one.

Join a military - If you want to start over, see if you can join the Royal Navy, British Army or the French Foreign Legion. Get fit, build discipline, travel the world, have stories for friends and family back home.

Learn a language - Through different websites such as fluentin3months, italki, duolingo etc, it's never been easier to learn a language online. We live in a geographic bloc where you can travel to and live in 28 different countries (and further afield) and meet women out of a population of 505 million. Believe me, some of them will be only too happy to meet a guy like you and will be impressed by your knowledge of their language!!!

How fit are you? Set yourself a challenge, do 50 press ups non-stop. Run 2.4km in under 10 minutes. Set goals. At your age I know you can do it with some training. Get fit, set goals, reach them through tough, hard work - no matter what.

I think you should do the Leaving Cert but my point in listing a few things you COULD do if you wanted was to show you some options you've probably never even thought of.

You're the man - you have EVERYTHING to reach any of these goals. Rock on.

Is there a local Macra association you can join?

I think that your parents shouldnt have let you finish school at 15 but that is water under the bridge now.

Probably best to give the Leaving Cert a go. The advantage for you is that you might qualify to be a mature student for college and there are advantages to that.

You have to figure out what it is you want to do.
Once you've done that, start setting it in motion.

You're young with everything to live for.
