3 bets for me in Galway

Supreme Doc 3.10 Galway - 33/1. Loves Galway and came 5th in the plate last year. Had a spin over hurdles a couple weeks back and looks a lenient mark of 123 and also has a five pound claimer on board. Main dangers are Benemeade and Shanpallas (ground may not suit tho)

yulong xiongba 4.20 Galway - 14/1. Handicap debut and bottom of the weights with a 5 pound claim. Murtagh's horses running ok and think will handle the ground better than others and knows his job against initial and intense style

Teach Nua 5.25. Galway - 5/1. Looks like the glue factory race of Galway but reckon this is a Weld horse that has been waiting for this. Very very lenient mark and has experience with this course. Should win

Joe Packet at 9/1 in the last at Newmarket my nap of the week. Down to a good mark and caught the eye last time in a race that has worked out extremely well, second won easily off 2lbs higher, third horse that day won a good Ascot handicap and the fourth won a handicap by 5 lengths since. Hard to win with but he is a course and distance winner and is the type to pop up soon.

Is the Nassau tomorrow the worst gr.1 ran domestically in the last number of years?

assuming that Galway doesn't get hit with the forecast rain that is expected in Leinster, really fancy The Parishioner in the 3.10

carries a postage stamp weight, will love the step up in trip, nicer ground would have been perferable, but think this is complete handicap blot.

stable won this with another handicap blot two years ago in Carlingford Lough

    Saturday Pricewise.

7-1 Muthmir might just be different class

The phone wouldn't stop ringing yesterday with people telling me Intrinsic is a good thing for the 32Red Stewards' Cup (3.50), writes Tom Segal.

Robert Cowell's sprinter may well be around 10lb ahead of the handicapper, but I have a strong feeling Muthmir has at least that up his sleeve and he is surely the one to be on following last week's runaway win at York.

Rarely will you see a big-field handicap done and dusted after two furlongs, but it was evidently clear at that stage Muthmir was going to win and win easily.

The 6lb penalty certainly isn't enough to stop him, and provided there isn't a deluge he is going to be incredibly hard to beat.

Stall two could be an issue, but Inxile won a sprint earlier in the week from one and Take Cover went down the far side when winning the King George yesterday.

They were front-runners and there is the chance Muthmir is badly drawn, but there hasn't been any bias at Goodwood this week and he is the most talented horse in the field.

Having said that, I can't let my old friend Alben Star go unbacked. He ran a blinder in the Wokingham off a similar mark and couldn't have been more unlucky not to win the Scurry at the Curragh last time.
Both those runs have worked out well and there isn't a man with a better record in these big-field sprint handicaps than Richard Fahey.

Discussiontofollow and Intrinsic are improving horses who have to be feared, but there aren't that many others who make too much appeal.
The consolation race (2.05) looks much tougher. Fahey has a strong chance with El Viento and Tatlisu, although the latter would want a lot of the overnight rain.

However, I'm a sucker for a Roger Charlton-trained sprinter and I don't think we have seen the best of his Secondo yet.

If he can reproduce the form of his staying-on second to Lancelot Du Luc at York last season Secondo would have a massive chance, and his trainer earmarked the 32Red Cup as the race for him earlier in the campaign.

He has clearly had issues, but was a shortish price to win one of the best 6f handicaps of the season at Newmarket in May and his latest Doncaster run has surely primed him for today.

If the rain arrives Secondo would struggle, but it would bring Kinglami into it.

Brian Gubby has few horses these days, but he has a fine record at Goodwood and won this race with a similar horse a few years back. Stall two is a concern, but he looks to be running into form and did well in the ladies' race at Ascot last weekend. He has decent form at this track and can outrun his 25-1 price.

The conundrum horse in the Jaguar Stakes (2.40) is Rainbow Rock. He couldn't have done more wrong when second over 1m2f on Thursday, but he made up so much ground that he has to be a
    well-handicapped horse.

However, this is a better race and if Rainbow Rock takes time to warm up again he won't have any chance.

Kings Fete was backed for the St Leger in recent days and comes from a stable that always targets this race. He looked good when winning a fair race at York last time despite pulling hard and, if the hood settles him down, he will be hard to beat.

However, Oasis Fantasy is the one to back at 12-1 as he looks to be improving at a rate of knots, as would befit his pedigree. He looked good when storming down the outside to win a decent handicap over course and distance in June.

    Today's bets

    Secondo
    2.05 Goodwood
    1pt win at 14-1 generally

    Kinglami
    2.05 Goodwood
    1pt win at 25-1 generally

    Oasis Fantasy
    2.40 Goodwood
    1pt win at 12-1 with
    William Hill and Ladbrokes

    Muthmir
    3.50 Goodwood
    1pt win at 7-1 generally

    Alben Star
    3.50 Goodwood
1pt win at 12-1 with Coral and Ladbrokes

    Good Luck All.

Very sub-standard Nassau Stakes, the worst I've seen in a long time. The more I look at it, the more reasons I can find to oppose all of them....

    Woeful race. Back the ambulance!

Nassua does look a horrible Group 1, backing Mango Diva as she's in form and the ground will be ok. Ground will be totally new to the French filly and Venus & Sultanina both look more about staying than speed to me so would fancy Mango Diva to do them for speed.

    Looks a hard day otherwise.

Going is tough, I reckon. Most of the punters are broke and badly hungover at this stage ;)

Officials have applied 4mm of water this morning but report that it may not be enough to remove the sick and drink puddles formed over the last 5 days :D

I was looking at him myself, but get the impression he hates the track (Flat)
    Last 3 galway runs:

    12 of 12
    17 of 17
    13 of 18

Down 11lb but still cany fancy

    7:45 Ham - ECONOMIC CRISIS (14/1)

    - Came 4th in this last year
    - Rain all day forecasted, the more the better
    - Loves this track

If in doubt, back the best jockey. Gone for Ryan Moore rather than Mango Diva in the Nassau today. Fcuking awful race. I can't believe that a valuable Fillies and Mares Group One could descend to this.

Quite sweet on Confessional in the first at Goodwood, is down to a potentially exploitable mark and should be up to going very close if getting the breaks.

    Goodwood 3:50

Very tough race with not a lot standing out for me as great value, but I keep looking at York Glory at 33/1 and in case of regrets I’m going to have a go on him today. He appeared a sprinter going places last year at Ascot and had a few good runs after that but has been poor this year so far. Last time out he was hampered and wasn’t pushed after that but I’m hopeful that this race may have been his plan and if he fulfils the potential he showed last year he could get involved.

I’m also going with min bet on a couple of huge outsiders here in Ballesteros and Zero Money, both are on decent mark and are very inconsistent but on their day could well produce the good here.

1 Point EW 33/1 5 Places York Glory
½ Point EW 100/1 BetVictor 5 Places Ballesteros
½ Point EW 125/1 5 Places Zero Money

Siding with Narniyn in the Nassau. A few group wins to her name already.

Muthmir & Discussiontofollow in the Stewards' Cup.

Small e/w on Celtique Beau in the opener at Galway. Decent efforts last twice only fading late on and although this looks a better race he could get a place for his local trainer.

going to take a chance with theatre bird ,would have a small each way chance if recapturing some of her old form .

Great to see Prince rudi win that at 12, but mccarthy deserves a whip ban (11 from back of last)

    Ashpan Sam 33-1 ew 3.50
Ground a concern, but I like it's place chances.Finished a hd behind Intrinsic 3 races back with 9 12lbs. Followed that up with a quick time and win on good ground.

Really think 3.50 Goodwood Discussiontofollow 12/1 has a fantastic each way chance in the Stewards Cup.

I'm taking Alben Star E/W in the 3.50 at Goodwood, has great potential for a good run there I think.

I've a lot of time for De Sousa tbh, will always give an honest account. But I'm always weary of these races that are already small fields that see one or two key rivals withdrawn.

    Carerra 11-2 5.30
I think it can win this.

At his price I will avoid. I'm going for Lucky Pat, Punch bumper winner is quiet decent and although he has a few lenghts to make up with Vinnie I think the rain may be to his advantage

ew at 8/1 is a very good bet

He was left behind at the start on Monday, he took a turn at the back of the field, tapes went up, losing 6 lengths. Lavery put his hands up after the race and took the blame. He sure made up for it today. I only learnt this post race on galway bay fm interview this evening. He's a jockey for the future

He had a lot of injuries according to the radio. Wonder did that cut his career short?Thought he was younger based on the I view post race? Anyway, seemed like a nice chap. Hope he stays injury free now.

He was a hot topic a few years back when people wanted him to be replaced by a Pro on Moscow Mannon in Champ Bumper. Fair play to connections they stuck with him and he gave it as good a ride as anyone could have.

Racing post generally spot on to be fair. Well the print version anyway. The amount of data they have is incredible. Online version needs a little improvement. First my account details were hacked earlier this yr like a lot here. Now I get an email this week telling to clear out my online wallet that I have with them to buy books otherwise I will lose the money there. Asked me to fill in more forms for them etc etc but I don't trust them with my personal details. They can simply refund me my money otherwise they can seize it without authority, that will be interesting. Their communication dept may need an overhaul or more training as I'm not impressed by that email I got from them/ off topic, sorry, rant over.
